Multi-family Holidays... Too stressful?

Contributor: Lucky21 Lucky21
Has anyone else just had it with multi-family holidays? It's just traveling across town multiple times a day is just gotten too much for us, so we are starting to host holidays. Has anyone else reached this limit?

I only had one event (not holiday) that was multi-family. It was so stressful and difficult to coordinate that it was not worth it and i would never do it or anything even similar again.

We have to travel 100miles to go see the family and have three places to stop by. It is too much for us and we have to drag two kids also. No one would come if we hosted, so we have to go up there. I would rather host myself, but no one wants to drive to us, so we have to go to them.

I feel bad, but I agree with this statement.

I can definitely empathize with how much stress it causes, though. My parents are divorced and one is remarried, so I told them not to expect me to be at every family function because traveling was too expensive and stressful for me.

We used to try and visit both sides of the family on major holidays, but that got old real quick. We just alternate years now. We are much happier and everyone understands.

That's why we moved from Northern Cal (where 98% of our relatives live) to Oregon (all on our own), to stay away from everybody!

There's been many divorces & re-marriages in my family. I've had as many as 7 places to go one year between Christmas Eve & Christmas Day.
