Movie Theatres Serving Alcohol?!?!?

Contributor: Badass Badass
They are starting to do this here, is this happening in your area too? What do you think of this? Do you plan on having a drink during your next trip to the movie theatre?

We've had that since the bigger theater opened, like, ten years ago. Nothing new. I get a drink sometimes.

Hmmm... I may actually consider going to a movie if they did that where I live!

yeah, they've been doing it in my hometown for a few years. I honestly don't see anything wrong with it.

They have it here in certain movies at certain theaters where they also serve you full dinners in your seat. I haven't tried it yet but I plan on it!

The movie theatre by me recently added a bar. I haven't used it, but I also would rather just sneak in my own alcohol and save some money.

Lots of theaters around me have been doing this for years. Most of them have a 'limit' to prevent anything crazy happening. I don't just because if I'm going to drink I have better places to do it and actually socialize.

I haven't seen that, but it seems interesting. As long as the people don't get wasted, or violent, i think it's fine.

Oh please NO! Our theatre already doesn't properly ID for movies so there is already obnoxiously loud and inconsiderate teens and young adults in there talking and being loud. We don't need the stupid young adults of drinking age to come in there and think it's a concert and get trashed and be all loud. I get so mad when I go see a movie and people have to talk and be inconsiderate. If you're going to be loud and talk, wait until you can rent it.

I don't think they're doing this in my area, but then I almost never go to the movies. For the places that don't have a bar in them, what kind of alchol are they serving, like bottled beer where the popcorn and soft drinks are sold?

One of our local theaters do it. *shrugs* I wouldn't buy alcohol there, though, as it's really expensive.

i love it. and yes, i will be.

my friend and i are going to see star wars in 3D on friday night. only way i'd go see star wars is if i were drinking. i'll probably have to get stoned beforehand too. and i don't even smoke weed.

Same here, it's one of the AMC theaters. It's $30 for each person--$10 for the movie ticket and a $20 voucher for food. They have trays attached to each seat that you pull toward yourself, and there's a wait staff that serves food and drinks. Also, there's a silent button at each seat so you can summon wait staff at any time. I plan on trying it out with a couple friends once I have the money.

We stopped going to the theaters. It's way cheaper to watch movies at home

It's probably more expensive than having drinks before you go, but I imagine it could make some movies more tolerable

Huh? Had no clue. I haven't ever noticed any theaters I've been to carrying alcohol.

Yes, there's bars in theaters, you have to show them your ID.

Wowzers, nope didn't know that. I don't believe they are doing that here. God i hope not. Last thing I need is my kid sittin' next to some heavy booze breather. Ack, how ridiculous that they would offer this in a family type setting! Not to mention, ANYONE can drink that booze once it hits the theater seat.

I like to see the movie when I go to the theater and I probably wouldn't go if they started serving alcohol there because there is always one idiot who thinks he's at home and is continually up and down getting more beers and going to the restroom, disturbing everyone else's enjoyment.

This has been going on here for 15 years or so. Some of the breweries here buy old buildings and turn them into hotels, bars, movie theaters, concert areas, ect.. They turned a old run down grade school into a nice hotel where the different classrooms have different themes. It also has a movie theater, a nice spa, cigar lounge.

We have a small, indie theater in town and they've always served meals & alcohol. Lately I've noticed alcohol is an option at the more "mainstream" theaters. It doesn't bother me. They make it pricey enough (and it's generally not good alcohol) that I've never felt the need to order it. I'll go to a bar before the movie if I want to watch it with a buzz.

I could enjoy having a drink or two while watching a movie, but I feel like them serving meals would be kind of distracting...

Oh my gosh, that's awesome. I need to vacation in your area during the winter! I could get a nice relaxing massage, and go smoke an expensive cigar without having to brave the outdoors again!
