Middle Names!

Contributor: Elaira Elaira
A friend of mine just made the following observation:

"Things I've learned from facebook....Every girl's middle name is Marie. Without a doubt."

And I started thinking about how common certain middle names are!

What's yours?

I have a less common middle name (though it is not considered unusual). I actually like my middle name--I definitely like it much better than my first name. As a kid, I always thought I'd switch to using my middle name in adulthood, but I always forgot when moving to a new place to begin introducing myself by my middle name. So despite my childhood intentions, I've gone by my first name my entire life since it is near impossible to get people to call you by something different from what they've become accustomed to calling you.

Lol I knew a ton of people who had the middle name Marie. I know a couple of people who have Christine and Rose as middle names as well. My middle name is Christine but it was almost Rose, from what my mom has told me.

My elementary school best friend has the same middle name that I do, but she's the only one I know with it to this day. Mine's not too common at all.

Lynn, which is I think is the most boring name in existence. My full name is nothing but one syllable names. I know people with more syllables in their first name than in my whole name. (For those of you who know me on FB, my first name there is not my legal name, but the formal version of my name. My mother said she was unaware of the formal version of my name until I was two-years-old when a friend of hers used the formal version to address me.)

I think it depends upon generations, though, in what middle names are more common or not. Admittedly, I think 'Marie' is just a lack of imagination on the parents' parts because it goes with just about EVERY female name. You have to really think of how first and middle names sound together, especially when you're going to be yelling it for them to come home.

BTW - Elnoa, I love the name 'Dorothy'; it's a first name in my family.

My mother and I have the same middle name too. So do all of her sisters, and her mother. Although mine and my mom's are spelled differently because my dad forgot that her Ann didn't have an 'e' when he filled out her Social Security stuff for her. So mine has an 'e' too!

No Marie middle names in our family. Not me or my daughters. One daughter has a very common middle name, but it was for my husband's grandmother. My other two kids are named for (middle names) my grandmother and my husband's mother. Both of them have very unusual names. My own middle name was a very common name for girls born around the time I was, in fact, I went to school with about 5 other girls with the same first and middle name. When I was at Catholic School, at least half the class had my first and middle name.
