No, the writers of the notes didn't leave them. They probably lost them. Or put them inside a library book, forgot about them, and someone found it. And they're not only notes. There are other items, though it's mostly notes. I submitted something YEARS ago. It was on their old site but I can't find it on their new site. The site is a great waste of time, I love it.

Just glad that guy wasn't there last time I went to a Wal-Mart.

Big question is, why not just buy the mayo if it arouses him so much and just take it home where he can have some privacy? Least then he wouldn't have gotten arrested, that's going to be one hell of an embarrassing mark on his police record.
