Did you know that if you don't clean your brushes, you are more likely to get acne break outs? I haven't used brushes in a long time, but in retrospect, I had a lot more break outs when I did use them. Do you all see a correlation or is this just bogus?
Make up and acne.

I think it's true. The bristles absorb the oil and bacteria from your face everytime you use them. I wash my face brushes once a week and my eyeshadow brushes usually just get a quick wipe with a makeup wipe because I change colors a lot. I find that the really soft synthetic brushes get dirtier and oilier faster than the rougher ones. I use e.l.f. brushes because they are cheap and I can get a bunch of them.

I've heard this and I think it's true--dead skin cells and oil will accumulate on the bristles and bacteria will grow. I clean my brushes weekly with hot water and soap. Maybe not the gentlest method, but I want to really make sure that they are as clean and bacteria-free as I can get them. They haven't started to fall apart yet, but they're an inexpensive set I bought on eBay, so I won't be too upset when they eventually wear out.

I have heard this. I have always used MAC brushes and they have told me to make sure I wash my brushes every once in a while

I never wear make up

Yes. Brushes get super nasty. I shampoo mine and the whole 9 yards. I am a freak about bacteria. I can't say that it definitely breaks me out because I clean my brushes frequently. But ALL skin is diff. some people won't break out from it, where someone with more sensitive, acne prone skin will.

It's true. I don't wear a lot of make up anymore but when I did I used brushes and I always cleaned them. I haven't had a problem with acne sense I was a teenager.

I have sensitive skin so I wash my brushes after every use. It's a tremendous pain in the ass but my skin seems happier for it.
