Make sure your computer protection is up-to-date before 7/9/2012

On Monday the FBI will shut down the temporary internet servers it set up to support those affected by malicious software, called DNSChanger. Once those servers are off, anyone still infected will be offline.

You can read a full news article here:
Internet blackout for thousands coming Monday

If you need to check your computer, the is a website to do so:
DNS Changer Check-Up

* If you are outside of the US, the FBI has a list of foreign language DNS checks ON THIS PAGE.

It's good news if the check is green, but that doesn't mean you're out of the woods. "If your ISP is redirecting DNS traffic for its customers you would have reached this site even though you are infected."

Time to update the virus scanners and the malware detectors and let them do a complete scan!

I think they said that something like 4 million computers were infected worldwide. When you consider the number of global users, that's actually a really low number, and chances are most people are not infected.

However, any webhost providers or online retailers (Apple has publically stated they were attacked) who are infected better get the servers cleaned before Monday, otherwise we're all going to wake up and find half the web gone.

That said, some of the infected are individual computer users, a number of which are unfortunately lax about security. If they don't update/check/clean their system before 12:00:00am Monday, they're going to find themselves cutoff from the net.

Had to ask the hubby about this and he says we are good to go. He's the one with degrees and certifications In all things computers so all that's left to him, I just use it.

I guess with all the hoopla that surrounded Y2K, they had to cut the warning closer (too close). But still ... I wonder ...
