Laser scar removal....

Contributor: Breas Breas
I know it is a long shot, but has anyone ever got this done here? I've been seriously considering it because I have some really ugly big scars which definitely plays a negative role in my level of self esteem... Just curious if you've ever gotten it done, what are your thoughts on it, etc..

I work in a physicians office, and although I, personally, have not had this procedure done, I have seen some really amazing results for a lot of our patients. There are many lasers that work well and some which I wouldn't bother wasting your money or time on, I could give some recommendations. I've worked in a couple of cosmetic settings and your first step, of course, would be to determine if laser scar removal is best for your particular needs. Sometimes if you see a Dermatologist, certain injections can clear scars up, if they are keloids or something of that nature, but if this is scarring from tissue trauma from surgeries cuts or scrapes, laser is an extremely effective method.

Tattoos work wonders too if you want to go artistic route. I use to have horrible scars on my back. My tattoo covers it. You can't even tell.

The first thing I would recommend is looking up either dermatologists in your area or cosmetic facilities that use the lasers by the company "Cutera", they are the BEST when it comes to what you get for your money.

The two combined laser treatments you will want to look into are "Genesis" and "Titan". Those together can do an absolutely amazing job of removing scarring, but something you will need to do is make sure that whoever you go to has had excellent results. Two people working the same machine at the same settings may give a patient two totally separate results!

If you come up with a list of facilities in your area who use this laser and have these two treatments available you can always message me the list and I can ask the company rep who he has seen the best results out of and who is better for cost vs results. He will be in the office next week some time

No problem at all, glad I can help, since this is something I'm very familiar with! You could probably also look it up online somewhere? Not sure what to suggest for that, but whenever you get a chance, that's fine, and I can always call him and ask if you get it to me after he comes in

No problem, then those would be extremely easy to remove with laser treatments just wanted to make sure. I had the same problem with acne scars, I was thinking they were more along the lines of deeper scarring, but if they were from just picking at your skin you may only need the Genesis. That's more for tone and texture and can clear up acne scarring easily.

I was reading on one of the sites that you can get a procedure done for skin without the lasers... Id have to look up what it is called though.. have you heard of this?

There are several different options, you can go with cosmetic peels, creams (although some may not be so great for your face) or there is a product out there which, depending on severity, could help. The product LINE is Neocutis, the product itself would be BioSerum, although that is probably more expensive than the laser treatments

Nope, I think I would be freaked out to have someone use a laser on me.

Actually, these lasers aren't that bad. Genesis (for scar removal of this nature) doesn't hurt. It feels basically like you're standing in the shower, with warm beads of water hitting your face at various points. The only time you would feel pain, would be like in my case where I was having it for current acne breakouts, and if it would hit an open breakout where I'd picked at it, it would feel like a slight rubber band snapping.

Same with laser hair removal, rubber band snaps for a few seconds over the area, but not bad at all.

The more painful lasers would be the Titan, and those for pigmentation and vascular treatments. Most of those you can apply a cream named "BLT" short for the numbing agents in it. 30 minutes of numbing cream and you can't feel a slap to your face muchless the laser treatments.

Yes, it can be done, but make sure you go to a physician who does a LOT of these procedures. Laser ANYTHING is sometimes a "sideline" that people go to "weekend workshops" to learn. For instance, I am not going to a GP or emergency room doc, who happens to own a laser clinic, for removal of a scar (or tattoo). I am going to a PLASTIC SURGEON or DERMATOLOGIST who owns a laser and is a SPECIALIST in skin. Understand? You want someone who is VERY GOOD at what they do.

Some people, sadly, have a great propensity to scar, and they can scar worse from the procedure (surgical or laser) to remove a scar...but that is rare and a GOOD doctor will know what to look for and what to ask you before doing any procedure.

Best wishes.

By all means, with this being FACIAL, go to a KNOWN, established PLASTIC SURGEON who is specialized in FACIAL RECONSTRUCTION. That is a very specific subset of plastics..since it involved eyes, ears, nose and lips...very unique structures with very specific tissue under-layment and architecture.

Read reviews, speak to friends, colleagues and find someone good, then just go get a consult from him or her, and find out what they can offer you.

BEST WISHES.
