Just wondering

Contributor: Stephanie Marie Stephanie Marie
I have a question for the people in these forums. I recently have gotten bored and was looking through topics, some have ALOT of pages. Well my question is why do some people bitch about the A to Z games in topics with so many pages? They complain about them on page like 10 of 20 or what.

I mean why not just make a topic and complain so the people who make the A to Z know so many people are upset with them? I have made a couple A to Z games and I would prefer it if people were upfront about not liking them, instead of seeing the bitching about them days or weeks later. Some of the people who make A to Z games might not read through certain topics and see the complaints and stop. I mean I seriously think that if these games annoy so many people then there should be a topic about it asking people to stop making the games.

I will not make another A to Z again. I will make sure I watch any topic I make because it seems some people complain about every little topic created. I am not trying to stir anything up, but I do think it would be nice for those who do not like certain topics to please just say so in a new topic and not page 10 of 20 or whatever.

That is all. Thank you.

As being one of the possible *bitchers* you might be refering to, I will answer it this way. Some may have been complaining (that is what I prefer to call it) and some were poking fun at it.

The whole point was that nobody would read the post if it were posted (for example a Search function post that went ignored) and we didn't need to have a new discussion on it. For the most part, I would say that they are only being posted for points and the double points. Some of those A-Z games are ludicris, that may seem harsh but some of them there is nowhere to go in the game.

And the only reason you saw it was because, you got bored. Some of the topics have been up for a long time (a continuous active thread) so having these comments come up 10-20 pages in is not outlandish.

I have tried to stay out of the forums lately (only popping in for an occasional meeting or to post on a thread that I am active in) because of all the posts being made that are disingenuine. Not saying all of them are, but I really hate that important threads are getting buried in the mess.

I am now stepping down off my soapbox and going to the corner for a timeout.

All I meant by this post was seriously they would have more of a chance being seen if there was a topic made about it.
I mean seriously some of the people might not go looking in random topics and see the posts.

Maybe if they saw the complaints and how upset people seem to be over it then other people who create the post will stop as well? It would be alot more helpful to those who do not read through some of the post where the complaints are listed.

I said my peace and explained my point of view on it (and during that 2 more were posted) but I figure you desreve to have this "bumped" up since it is getting buried in the threads.

This way you may get more explinations to what you are wondering.

The A-Z posts are silly, as are the Men vs. Women threads. There's just no point in it whatsoever.

However, it's an open forum and there are going to many posts that offend at least one person.

I know they may be silly. But I do them for fun in real life. There might be no point behind them but the amuse me at least.
The thing is I have made a couple, so had my brother. We are both new to the site. I just think if certain kinds of post are unacceptable then someone should have it posted saying so. Instead of talking about it in possibly threads some users will not read at all. Why bitch and make fun of the topics? Do something about it.
I find it pretty rude and it reminds me of teenagers the way some of these users who have been on here for awhile act. Yet I have gotten flagged on these forums for a lot less. I thought they should of been flagged. Its immature to be quite hunest, I mean we are all adults here so why not just message the people who have made the topics and tell them to not make anymore.

I mean seriously there isn't a point really to any of the games people post.

So how about they just get rid of the whole EdenGames section then? That would make ALOT of those users happy.

But then again I think I may stay away from the forums for the most part(except for every once and a while) for I do not like how some of the users who have been on the site for so long treat newer users and what not.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one and some of them stink.

I don't think it's going to put you in anyone's good graces by complaining about other users. You're reacting instead of responding. There seem to be a ton of empty threads, like threads, missed threads, useless threads...it's the nature of the beast on the internet.

Oh I know. I am not here to be in other users good graces. Simple fact is they are other users. I know quite a few of these same users have complained about me.
So I could care less if I am in those users good graces, for they are not in mine. Can't have a opinion in he forums without getting flagged like crazy. Yet they do the same exact thing.

I asked Kristi to remove this topic so I could word it better. But I doubt she will either. I understand they don't want to come off as deleting post people have replied to, but if someone asks for a topic to be removed so there are not a lot of the same topics then why not?

I mean I understand I could of worded this topic much better but I wrote it going on what a hour or two of sleep in the past 3 days?
I am sorry if it comes of wrong.

If you aren't interested in being a valued member of the community, then why bother participating at all?

It's natural for the members who have seen Eden grow from the ground up to be protective of the community and the board. I see a lot of comments about important threads being squashed or buried.

If you want my opinion, I think Eden is generous for giving us points for posting in the forum but it's probably something that should stop if there are going to be cat fights over who gets to post what, when and where.

I never said I wasn't interested in being a valued member of this community. All I said was I could are less if I am in the good graces of certain individuals who get special treatment on this site.
Please do NOT put words in my mouth. Thanks!

If you find a post offensive, you should flag it or send an email to one of the site staff members. While the EF staff members try to be everywhere at once, they can't possibly read every post in every thread, so they rely on user feedback to know when something is offending others, especially if they themselves don't find it offensive.

If something wasn't flagged, and you think it should have been, and didn't flag it, then you don't really have the right to be upset that it wasn't appropriately handled.

Well no because even if you flag something its not always handled. So whats the point in flagging it?

Contributor: DeliciousSurprise DeliciousSurprise
Now, on to your original question.

I hate the A-Z games; I think they're frivolous and they make me crazy when I have to sort through 15 different A-Z animals/jobs/flavours/ colours/countries/coun try singers/dancers/artist s/whatever to find that thread I forgot to favorite twenty minutes ago that's now on page 7.

It irritates me not as much as all those posts asking, "Does this really work?" but more than those posts asking, "When will this be back in stock?"

That's why I don't post in them. Not everyone likes my threads, I don't have to like everyone else's but I do have the self control to ignore things that irritate me.

That being said, if you'd be kind enough to explain what you mean by members receiving special treatment, I'd genuinely like to hear it. If you'd rather not chat about it on the forums, please feel free to message me. I've been posting on here for a while, and while I see that a lot of people are better friends with some than others, I don't see favoritism anywhere. BUT I know that I've seen favoritism on other sites I belonged on where there was none and I was misinterpreting things, so.

Not always handled, how so? Not handled in that the person isn't publicly chastised? I would assume that, sometimes, if people are being asshats they get a private spanking. Sometimes the moderators don't think your flag is valid. Sometimes the mods do handle it but don't remember to reply to every single flag.

So which outcome do you mean?

I'm not fighting with you, I'm just asking as someone who's been on forums ever since ever since.

I'd just like to say that while I understand both sides of this coin, games on Eden do have a place on the Forums, which is why we created a subcategory for them. Subcategories make it easier for people to find exactly what they're looking for. So does the Search bar. We also have a "Favorite" button that allows people to keep tabs on their favorite threads. There are tabs for any thread you post on and icons for any threads you have read. This way threads are not missed and people can keep up. We made these features so that people would USE them!

We have noticed the Forums getting flooded of late, and while the influx of new topics and people are great, we are still checking up on every thread/post that is flagged and/or messaged about.

Use those handy forum features and play nice, guys!

The problem with the way that I read this question, I am guilty of saying something. BUT most of what you originally were talking about started like this.

My wife and I joined in the Eden Gives Back Meeting - Which the question was asked for more ideas on how we could give back to our communities. We ran low on ideas soooo

I said if we make a post and put "A-Z" in front of it more people might see it and help out in the idea making process.

Personally, I see no problem with saying that, for it is probably more truth then not. We are all adults here and should be acting as so.

I found offense with the fact that you threw everyone into the same catagory of "b*itching, when if you read how it originated it was not that at all. Yes some feel very strong about it and some are riding it out, so to speak.

I have not read every single thread to see if I am missing the ones you were referring to but then you could be referring to the one that I previously mentioned.

There is no special treatment that I can tell for one member or another, I take full responsibility for anything I do, that includes in real life as well. My wife believes the same.

I'm not replying to any one post, but trying to address several things that called out to me.

Most of what I've seen in the forums about the A-Z games has been, as Danielle915 said, poking fun at the A-Z games. Most of the poking fun (that I'm aware of) was a derailed thread about people posting polls and threads with repetitive topics (which is generally discouraged). It doesn't mean that it didn't go too far, and while it was amusing, it didn't really help anything. The A-Z games are not my favorite things, but I don't read them, nor post in them. Games are entertaining and they pass the time, so if you like them, that's you. Good for you. Enjoy the games. I actually stopped posting in most of the games because I found myself too distracted from my day playing them, and I already have too many distractions.

Okay, I really hope this next paragraph doesn't offend you. Please take the time to think about what I'm saying.

As for expressing your opinion and having the right? Yes, of course you do. If you manage to express your opinion in a way that is in accordance to Eden's Expectations of Conduct, you will find that you have fewer flags, if any. Not everyone here holds the same values, morals, religious views, or even sexual views. Eden strives to honor all of these people; which means that expressing our opinions in opposition to something, a little tact is necessary. Let's say there's a thread: "I Love Brown" wherein the author describes loving everything brown. Hair, eyes, clothes, furniture, cars, carpet. (It's like the song "Blue" only brown.) So I think this is all ridiculous because I don't like brown. I have three options: 1) Ignore the thread. 2) Blast the person for liking brown. 3) Explain that I don't like brown and I prefer more variety in my life. I'm likely going to select option 1 or 3 depending on who the author is and if I feel so inclined to express my opinion. Option 2 will always get me in trouble. And trust me, it's HARD for me to not do Option 2. I tend to be impulsive and controlling. It's a very bad combination and ALWAYS gets me in trouble. In fact, I'm trying to learn that the more passionately I feel about a topic, the more I need to distance myself from it because I do get judgmental and I *hate* being judgmental.

I hope that made sense, because I feel like I'm rambling but I don't want to try and rewrite it for the third time.

I certainly hope that you don't try and put yourself in anyone's good graces because there is no one here that you need to impress. You are here for you, not anyone else. There are some amazing people here and there's not anyone that I outright don't like. Some people confuse me. Some people frustrate me. Some people here have become very good friends. Some people I'm still getting to know and may never figure them out. That doesn't mean they don't have a place here.

Anyway, I hope that this all is taken in the spirit it was offered. And KRISTI, thank you again for ALL your hard work in the forums. You are a goddess!

I am personally offended by this

I had to throw my 2 cents in on this. Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love Eden and this community! Now I am guilty of starting one A-Z game on movies and other games in the Eden Games category, but I tried to make them games on learning new things such as my interest on Useless Knowledge, the Common Interests game was started to learn about other community members I might have something in common with.

As for the other games I started when I joined there was only a few games posted and as a new member I wasn't ready to just jump in and start in discussions although I loved reading them. Guess it was b/c I was a newbie so I kinda stuck to the games. Maybe that is how the other newbies feel? Or maybe it is just points.. I don't know. I have noticed that the forums are flooded with new posts. As Delicious Surprise said the posts "Does this really work?" are kinda annoying and I have seen several made daily by the same people. If you really want to know just read reviews, check ratings, and look if they're best sellers. That's what I had to do when first joining and still do. I have always found researching a product is going to be your best answer.

I hope that I didn't offend anybody and I'm sorry if I did. BBW gave some excellent advice in her post. Kudos BBW! Your Awesome!
