Is anyone still using Windows XP?

Contributor: dv8 dv8
Microsoft's support for Windows XP and Office 2003 ends today. They won't have any future patches or security upgrades. If you're still using XP, consider that the next time Microsoft sends out an update for more recent versions of Windows, hackers will reverse engineer the patch, figure out if XP has the same vulnerability, then create attacks for XP. If you're still using XP and are unaware of the news, just Google "windows xp end of support"

I use Vista on my HP laptop, so I'm sure in the next few years that will be out the door as well.

My other laptop is a Chromebook, so I don't have too much to worry about there.

I prefer XP over the newer versions of Windows.

I actually just realized that our computer at work still uses XP so we will have to fix that immediately since we are logged into some rather sensitive programs with guest info in them.

My job still does. My boss is too cheap to care, though. I upgraded all of my household's old laptops from XP and/or Vista to Windows 7 as soon as it came out, since Windows 7 is lighter and faster. My main laptop is Windows 8, though.

We took the opportunity to discard several old Windows PCs recently when the county had an electronics recycle day. We do have one still running XP. It is NOT online though. We need to copy some old files before recycling it.

"Old" PCs still work wonders if you install Linux on them or carefully stick with XP. I use one to record HDTV and act as a media server.

Our XP actually finally crapped the bed about 2-3 years ago. It had crashed so many times before that, and then the harddrive went, and we figured we were better off buying a new computer than keep putting money into a computer that would barely last another year.

The only thing they had out was Windows 7. I actually love it. Though I did keep the keyboard and mouse from the old XP just incase this computer's keyboard and mouse goes.

For the record, although I have a couple of computers that run XP, I have more computers that run newer versions of Windows.

Windows 8 is awesome. I used Ubuntu for a while but I'm a cam model and it wouldn't let me cam so I had to go back to using Windows 8. I definitely recommend Windows 8. Takes getting used to, but it's worth it.

I run many systems at work. Not long ago, we even had a system that required windows 98 for the instrument control software to work!
