I have a ton of documents, pictures and receipts to scan from 4 years and ongoing. Now I'm thinking about investing in a portable scanner to catch up and keep up with my hard copies. Has anyone on EF used/bought a portable scanner and think it's worth it?
Is a portable scanner worth it?

They are pretty useful for some tasks. Given that you primarily want to scan receipts and documents, it might be easier to get a non-portable scanner, since those tend to be easier to use without practice and a bit faster. I have used one and they are handy, they're just better suited to scanning books and things that are hard to move/don't fit in a normal scanner easily

But does a non-portable one scan quickly? From my experience, stationary flatbed scanners seem to scan pretty slowly. Plus they're more expensive

I have only used stationary scanners. They used to be slow several years ago but have gotten pretty quick recently. But maybe that's because I use my company's scanner...
Anyway, I don't see why stationary ones would be more expensive, seems like it would be easier to make a larger scanner that's not intended to stand up to as much punishment as a portable one. Maybe it's the sensors resolution, weird.

I've never used one.

I've used one. it's all right, but I'd rather wait until the price comes down some more.

My fiance recently bought a small feed scanner to deal with a large collection of family photos and documents. He loves it, but he's a bit of a tech nerd and just generally gets excited about that kind of thing. :o)

These days, the portable and non-portable scanner scan at about the same speed. They've definitely made great strides recently in improving them

I have thought about this purchase, as well. When I do research in a library, it would be nice to scan a page instead of going to the copier.

I have used one, however I prefer just scanning things into my stationary scanner as I don't scan frequently enough. If you think that you'll use it quite a lot, though, it would be worth investing in.
