Do you guys support internet censorship under the guise of "Protecting our children"? and what are your feelings towards all of it?

Is this about websites where you have to put in an age statement, or about more than that?

It's about more then that, like the government trying to make it where certain porn websites have to have a .xxx domain even though according to all the laws they have no power to do so.

I feel like there should be a way to verify age better than clicking a button, but that much past that is the parents responsibility. There are many filters you can put on the computer.

I agree! On the other hand of that you should know what your kids are doing on the internet.

I actually think that is a good idea and should have already been done really. It would be easier to set up parental blocks if all adult websites have the same domain. It is not really going to change anything to go from .com to XXX people are still going to go there.

Valid point, beck. I would have to say I agree with you here and also with what you said about parents being responsible for knowing what their children are doing on the internet.

If someone can't be bothered to monitor what their children are doing on the computer then perhaps said children should not be allowed computer time, just my opinion.

I don't like censorship. I'm a mom and I think it's my responsibility, not the government's, to determine what is or is not appropriate for my child and if he is doing it. I'm happy to monitor on my own. That's my job as a mom.

I don't agree with censorship, anywhere, for any reason. If someone has a problem with something someone has produced that doesn't violate child pornography laws or public indecency laws, then they should simply stroll on by and mind their own damn business.

There's a saying in another internet community that I'm fond of: "Offended? That's why there's a scroll wheel on your mouse, use it."

I think it's the parent's responsibility to decide what is and isn't appropriate for their children to do online. I don't personally think it's something the government needs to get involved in. Besides, how can you honestly police the entire internet?
