In 2013 "recreational" Marijuana becomes legal in some states. Do you wish it were legal in your state, or "no way", we don't need more intoxicants?

People are torn from their families and thrown in jail because they have dried flowers. I think sometimes we forget that we're literally arguing over flowers.

Wish it was legal in all states! Throwing people in jail for using marijuana is so stupid but stupidity has a lot of numbers behind it

First it doesn't seem like very many people here understand that the way our constitution works is that the states can further constrain freedoms but CANNOT give us more freedom than what is available through Federal Laws. That means that even though the states can make weed absolutely legal, it's smoke and mirrors. Under Federal Law it is STILL illegal and we can and will be prosecuted for it.

Why shouldn't I bring up drug testing? If it were NOT against Federal
Law, private employers perhaps would be more likely to give in to not
firing someone for using in their free time. However on the topic of
public employees, particularly Federal Employees, who work in every
State of the Union. We (yes I'm a Lazy Federal Employee) are periodically subject to questioning about drug use and if we would lie, well that too is not only grounds for termination but possible criminal prosecution.
Oh and all of that applies to everyone who joins the military as well, no matter what state they come from. For example Little Johnny may "legally" smoke weed in Colorado and then be asked when he wants to join the Coast Guard "have you smoked weed anytime in the last seven years?" Yes? OK go away Johnny.

BTW the US Federal government is one of the largest single employers of
the nation. Not counting our military there were 4.3 million Federal Employees in FY 2011.

Ehh, don't really care. As long as there are sensible regulations, and it's restricted from causing harm to others, people should able to smoke up. After all, it's less dangerous than some of the legal substances people use now

I think it should be just like alcohol. My state has medical legalized, but it was such an overwhelming amount of support for medical, that I don't doubt that we'll be seeing recreational legalized in the near future. As far as dangers go, I took a course on drugs and behavior last year, and my textbook - which was clearly biased against making drug use look like any fun at all - could only list higher heart rate and blood flow as bad side effects, as well as saying you shouldn't drive under the influence. Legal drugs like alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine had longer side effects lists than marijuana did. There's really nothing wrong with it, at least anything more than drugs we already have legal, and legalizing it would create tons of jobs, revenue, and tax money for the states. I don't think it's a matter of "if" it will be fully legalized, but "when."

I don't know. I chose other because I'm kind of in favor of it being legalized. Marijuana is not that big of a deal. I know a lot of people gasp when they hear that, but really. It's not, to me. Most of us have smoked our share (I don't these days, and probably wouldn't even if it were legal simply because I do better when I'm wide awake) and it's not as horrible as a lot of people think.

In my area, marijuana is widely used. BIG time. I doubt there's more than a handful of people (ages 18+ if not younger) who have not smoked it. I personally don't do it anymore because I just need to be good and awake in order to do best, but now if I were having trouble sleeping, perhaps during one of my phases where I'll sleep for 4 hours or less every single day for a week, I would definitely smoke a joint... if it were legal.

I really can't think of a lot of negative points of marijuana being legal. I can't say for sure though, as there very well may be some negative things about this decision that turn up soon. Who knows, but I think for the most part, I'm for it. Hell, maybe the world will all calm down a little now! Less raging maniacs. Everybody'll just be all laid back and cooool?

See? LOL

I don't condone it and I never will. People can talk about how it's just perfectly fine all they want.. but I've only ever seen the -bad- effects of pot use. The people who abuse substances. Who will drink, get high, and pop pills all at once. It's not okay to me. It will never be okay to me.

Marijuana should be decriminalized so we can save devote time to getting those that are really committing crimes

Even though I'm allergic to the stuff I think it should be legal, sold, and taxed. Maybe have all the taxes from MJ go to education since schools so desperately need it.

I think it is the dumbest thing to jail people for possession of Marijuana. States should relax-- whole countries do not burn to the ground over weed.

I have never believed marijuana leads to harder stuff anymore than I believe wine or beer leads to drinking scotch or could lead to huffing lighter fluid. The causal link isn't proven as far as I am concerned.
