For the most part, I can talk to people a lot better online than I can in real life. I'm really shy when it comes to face-to-face. But I still get nervous every now and then online, too. How about you?
If you're a nervous person in real life, are you a nervous person online?

I'm not really a nervous person online, but I can sometimes be on IRL.
03/21/2012
I'm pretty chill most of the time, in person and online.
03/21/2012
I can become easily nervous in person a LOT... very rarely online.
03/21/2012
My anxiety with people depends on the time of day. During work hours, I'm super social. After work, leave me alone! I will talk to people online after work, but I don't wanna go out and deal with people. This is because I used to have agoraphobia and people stress me out if it's in large quantity still. I can handle 8 or 9 hours, but after that it's virtual/text or nothing.
03/21/2012
I can get frustrated sometimes but I am not nervous.
03/21/2012
I'm nervous in real life, but no online. See, I figure if people don't like me online I have to option to log out and get back to real life. I can't do that in real life.
03/21/2012
I force myself to be outgoing both online and in person.
03/21/2012
I am rather the worrying type, but not nervous...
Online I reveal my worries only to a few people, because I rather tend to be the "you can always turn to me" type, so folks rather know me as the one who can always help them when they have worries... ^^ ~smiles blushy

Oh yes, I find myself being nervous about everything online and in real life.
03/21/2012
I can be a bit shy and nervous in person. But online on here no not really. It's not like anyone will ever see me or know me in person.
03/21/2012
I'm not nervous in person or online, really. I talk and act the same way everywhere I am.
03/22/2012
I'm only nervous on message boards, where I feel like everyone is judging my response as part of a discussion. I am considerable better in one on one chat or real life scenarios.
03/22/2012
I'm too awesome to be nervous.

I'm a totally different person online. I'm more outgoing where I'm a bit shy in social settings depending on the people and the place. I'm not as bad as I used to be though. People used to think I was stuck up in high school and I wasn't....I was just shy and waiting for the other person to make the move. I'm still like that a bit, for example at a party around girls my age. If I sense something negative in someone else's body language or facial expression I won't approach them. When in doubt I just smile.

I'm also more comfortable talking about sex stuff online. Last weekend my friend that showed me EF mentioned in front of her bf,mine and two other friends how she liked my reviews and was asking me questions and I got really red-faced! Now had she asked me that stuff through facebook or a text I'd have no problem or even talking one on one in person.

I didn't vote in the poll because I didn't quite feel like there was an option for me. I wouldn't say I'm shy, but I am definitely a nervous person? I think anxiety/stress are kind of normal, baseline feelings for me on a daily basis. It's sort of a part of what motivates me; it keeps me driven and energized. So, I guess I can relate to those here that have anxiety, but less to that feeling contributing to shyness or something like that.
03/22/2012
Never nervous. Usually just that nice, laid back Southern thing, unless I get riled up about something and then I don't mind being a bitch - not one little bit.

No, I'm only nervous offline I think.
03/22/2012
Yes, I am generally a nervous person everywhere in life although I am trying to work on that! lol
03/22/2012
I dunno'. I'm not "nervous" in person, but I am on the socially awkward side. I'm the type of person who would rather be alone reading something nerdy and profound (or profane) than be in a club mingling. Online I'm as cool as the other side of the pillow. My girlfriend (dare I say fiance?) has really broken me out of my shell. So have a lot of drugs in my youth. Now, after many chemical experiences and one kick-ass girlfriend, I'm almost to the point where I would say that I'm comfortable in public. Almost.

I am very quiet in person too. I married a chatter box, so I allow him to speak, so I don't have too. HAHA, I am just kidding, but that is what I tell him.
03/22/2012
I'm only nervous around people I don't know in real life. If I know you, I'd be described as an outgoing talkative person.

At teacher conferences, doctor's offices, even in stores (anywhere where people he perceives as "authority") he leaves for me to do the talking.
It gets him in trouble sometimes. He didn't want to ask about changes in our health insurance at work.... then we found out he didn't resign us for Vision Insurance. If he had said something, we wouldn't be paying 100% for glasses out of pocket.
And, he looks at me to answer questions when we talk to teachers of our kids. He also, on the rare occasion when he goes to a doctor, never asks questions, then he comes home in a panic about his blood work and wants ME to interpret it for him. I can read the test results, but he should be asking his doctor for clarification.
My guess is you are more outspoken in public and around "authority figures" than he is though, Beck.

03/22/2012
I find it easier to be open online because when you go to a specific forum, you know that everyone there has an interest in common with you. In real life, the people you are around tend to be rather random.

I'm a super nervous person IRL and I'm a little nervous online. Generally I just try to watch what I say.
03/22/2012
Well I like to call myself introverted, not necessarily nervous but I can talk however to anyone online. In person I barely say anything which is why I never really go anywhere without my hubby, he doesn't know how to shut up lol.
03/22/2012
I'm just nervous about everything in general. It's something I've come to live with so it's whatever. Stupid life anxiety.
03/22/2012
I am not nervouse talking to people in real life, unless I am really attracted to the person and it is the first time we are meeting. What makes me more nervous in real life, though is large crowds. Online, I am not really nervous at all unless I feel like someone is starting to be pushy about something I don't want to talk about.
03/22/2012
I'm not nervous online, but I am a bit in person. Just awkward overall.
03/22/2012
It depends on what I am doing online. But since I cam and I get new people all the time. I tend to get nervous and I have been doing it for years now.

I'm not quiet at all though, is the strange thing! Not online, and even less so in real life. At least the internet slows me down because it takes longer to type than to talk. The anxiety is sort of just converted into energy and ambition. I would say I'm a high-strung person, definitely nervous and anxious a lot, but very assertive, definitely not shy or quiet. That's why I feel like a bit of an anomaly in this thread.

I wouldn't say I'm nervous in person, but I get easily flustered. Talking online, or even just writing to someone, is much easier for me because I can go over what I wrote and make corrections.
03/22/2012
I am a lot less nervous online. I think it has to do with the fact that I don't have to respond right away and can delete things if I need to before I post them. In real conversations, I tend to listen more than speak, in part because I listening, and in part because I sometimes can't get in a word edgewise. I am much more likely to "go up to" someone online and talk without knowing the person beforehand, too.

I get nervous sometimes, but that is because I do not like dealing with people alot. I like to keep to my self.
03/24/2012
Online I tend to be much more outgoing than I am in real life. I sometimes wish I could be more outgoing like my online persona, but I've started to embrace my nervous side too.
03/25/2012
Usually people are nervous in real live and not online but it's the opposite for me for some reason. I guess it's because I can't pick up vibes from people.
03/25/2012
I'm a nervous person all the time. Online and in person.
04/13/2012
I aint scared. haha normally
04/14/2012
Honestly it depends on the day and situation and who I'm with
05/20/2012
Anxiety and social agoraphobia - which manifests as being the token snarky bitch wherever I am. A lot of people are shocked to find out I'm an introvert because I tend to end up in leadership and speaking positions. Frankly, having to interact with the human race - right on the spot - exhausts the hell out of me and saps my energy (the main trait of being an introvert). Online is different because I control how much stimuli and interaction, and typing allows me time to think through my responses. I consider the virtual world more relaxed and slower than real life.
05/20/2012
I'm nervous online and off, but less so online. Though I do still get paranoid about my spelling and grammar and worry that I will type something stupid.
05/20/2012
I am a nervous person IRL. Since I've started interacting with people online (about 14 years ago) I have become a lot less nervous. I am still a lot more comfortable interacting over the internet and there are a couple specific situations where my anxiety may or may not trigger in an online setting, but for the most part I'm only nervous IRL.

being online is so much easier when it comes to talking to people, you don't have to worry about people judging you. Eyeing u up and down looking at the way you dress and what you look like. online people can get to know the real you.

This was a really good question. I chose the option 'No, I'm not nervous online but I'm nervous in person'. I'm very introverted IRL and it even surprises me how different I am online. It's like I'm two different people. For those who are really introvered, I think it's real good to use the internet and forums.
10/17/2012
I have daily anxiety but I don't experience it much online, mainly in real life.

I tend to be shy and nervous in real life, and also online but not to such a large extent. I have lots of time to think of my replies online, so I always feel more confident. But I am always careful!

Not really a nervous person, except in really awkward social situations maybe
03/22/2012
I'm more open online since this is all anonymous. In person, I'm quite until I get to know you better then I'm a chatterbox.
03/22/2012
I used to be nervous and shy all the time, both online and in person. I've gotten to the point where, as long as I'm not going to be alone (meaning without someone I know) and surrounded by people I don't know, I'm okay.

I'm an extremely nervous person in real life. Always have been. Online I'm less so, especially since I have the ability to stop, think, and edit what I say before I hit the button. The only times I'm nervous online is when I worry that I've said the wrong thing or if I'm afraid I've really offended someone.
