I Won A Raffle.....I did not enter!!!

Contributor: js250 js250
I received a phone call Saturday from a huge store and was informed that I won a gun at the raffle. I called back and the lady was gone for the day but would be back on Monday. The item I won was a $550 pistol...but I could not remember signing up for this raffle.

I called back this morning and talked to the lady. Come to find out the other lady who actually won the gun has the same name, her phone number is one digit off from mine and she lives on the next road down from my road. It was soooo odd, the lady from Bob Wards awarded me a pistol as well!!! I picked it up and am just amazed at how strange and wonderful this day was for me.

That's incredible luck! Nothing like that has ever happened to me.

The luckiest thing that ever happened to me was that I've only ever missed one flight, and that flight crashed.

That's crazy! Did you end up meeting your twin from the next road down? I would be terribly curious!

Ha, what an odd and striking coincidence. *sings* It's a small world after all...it's a small world after all...

Awesome that you got something out of the deal, too.

Nothing crazy like that has ever happened to me but it would be hella interesting if it ever did.

Congrats!

Nothing like that has ever happened to me really. The closest thing was when I worked at a convenience store I found a rub off lottery ticket on the floor when I was cleaning (it was already rubbed). I was going to put it in our recycle pile with the losing tickets, but my instincts said to run it through the machine. It was a $50 winner. I told my boss about it and he said if nobody came in to claim it within the next few days, the money was mine since I found the ticket. Nobody came in and asked about it, so the money was applied to my college text books... Not that it made much of a dent in the price haha.

Thanks everyone for the congrats!! I wish there were more "weird luck" stories to share....I have a ton of them. It seems like I have the oddest 'luck' of anyone I know, my hubby is just beside himself with how excellent/horrible/hil arious my circumstances/life/luc k tends to run. I am so used to it that I do not even think about it though, lol!!

(By the way, the pistol is sooo nice to shoot and I was wrong. It sells for around $600-I have the limited model.) My hubby is out of town and is beside himself and very excited about seeing my prize.

Wow, what a neat story. That's awesome that they honored the prize even though you weren't the intended winner.
I have mixed luck. I certainly have my lucky days.. I have too plucked a winning lottery ticket from the ground, found a ten dollar bill on the ground before, one day a $20. And I've won random things before. Never anything I didn't enter though. That's just cool!

Congratulations. What luck! We passed a toy store once with a big "giveaway" fish bowl outside. My then three or four year old wanted to enter, but we were in a rush (trying to get her shoes in the mall for a recital), and the store was out of "entry forms". The check out clerk saw me start pulling away and shouted, "just put your name on any bit of paper and that is fine enough for an entry". I dug in my purse and pulled out one of my business cards, tossed it in, and off we went.

I had no idea the drawing was happening later that evening.

Before leaving the mall...new dance shoes in hand, we stopped at the food court for a bite. My cell phone rang (this was years ago, and I still have to laugh as it was one of those "brick size" phones...with a 30 minute battery the size of three packs of cards). Anyway, I answered and was informed we had won the "grand prize"! We were back at the store in under five minutes and walked out of the mall with a six foot "teddy bear" in tow, plus about ten other HUGE toys. I will admit the "Little Tykes Country Kitchen" that we left with that day, became one of her favorite toys for a few years after that!

That is an amazing story. Had a similar story with a local newspaper contest here in town the other day. They "delivered" a $1000 grocery prize to the wrong person, but then when the correct entrant was identified, they both got the same prize!

Um.....nothing like that? It sounds like you won the real "mega lotto". You won a life! YOURS. Whatever you did and do from the point of that crash on, was your big win. A gift. Perhaps you don't realize what an amazing win you have had in life...more then a 1000 winning lotto tickets, any or all of which are worth nothing, without "life"!!!!

I hear about stories of that happening all the time. Sometimes, people just don't rub the scratch card all the way! Lucky.

For me, I've never won any raffles. My girlfriend found a 20 on a bench last week, however.

First JS250, Congratulations!

My 'weird luck' story to share is not winning anything but something just sort of similar.

I was riding motorcycle from Illinois to Los Angeles. I stayed at friends and relatives homes along the way. I'd been riding from Colorado to Phoenix that particular day. When I stopped for gas in Flagstaff I was tired and felt rather grungy from riding through some rain that day. As I stood by my bike fueling it up an older woman at the gas pump next to me started conversation with the observation that I had Illinois plates on the bike. I was in my early twenties and wasn't feeling particularly conversational right then, but at least I wasn't outright rude. Anyway she asked where I was from and I told her a large town about thirty miles from where I was really from. She then offered the name of her hometown and it was rather close to mine, so I told her where I really was from. She then asked if I knew a particular individual saying that he was a relative of hers. As it turned out, that day I was on my way to the Phoenix house of my hometown buddy who was this woman's nephew.
It's a smaller world than we often think.
