I need to vent!

I just found out that my husband's car needs a $2000 repair. We just spent over $800 repairing my van which is, admittedly, 16 years old and no longer in the best condition. His car is only 5 years old and we just spent $500 trying to repair it with our local repair shop, who is usually really good. But they couldn't fix it and said it had to go to a dealership so they could hook it up to their fancy computers to find out exactly what was wrong. Turns out they need to basically rebuild part of the engine and it's going to cost about $2000.

We've been working so hard to pull ourselves out of some deep credit card debt we built up because of a combination of medical, veterinary and other expenses a few years ago. We were finally within a few months of being out of CC debt and then this happens. It just sucks. It sucks big time.

I know that we are not the only family facing financial difficulties. It just seems like no matter how hard we try, we can never quite reach financial security and I'm really, really tired of pinching pennies till they scream.

We had actually been talking about taking a nice vacation somewhere next summer once we were out of debt, but now that's probably not going to happen.

I'm just pissed.

Is anyone else pissed off about anything? Feel free to join me in blasting the universe for its inherent unfairness.

That sucks so super hard. I don't have anything quite that bad to rant about at the moment, but I'm sending you lots of big hugs!

You know the old saying "When it happens to your neighbor it's a recession, when it happens to you, it's a depression" I feel your pain lady! I've got an over sized SUV sitting in my garage that needs the whole front end replaced and it's only 5 years old! Can't sell it, can't trade it and saving up to fix it. Money sucks sometimes! Hang in there!

*hugs*

I recently got a promotion, which is great but the hours lick goat nuts. Yesterday I closed, today I opened, tomorrow I close. I am so tired and cranky from the fucked up sleep schedule. And then to top it off this morning, had someone call in because her husbands uncle died and she wasnt coming in today or the rest of the week. for her husbands uncle. WTF!.. and she is one that calls in sick ALL the fucking time. Like at least twice a month. We are short staffed atm so finding a replacement for her was hell. Ugh.

Thank you Ivy. That was a good rant

Great saying!

Sorry about your SUV. ::hugs:: We can actually pay to get hubby's car fixed. It's just going to hurt like hell doing so.

Oh, that is so terrible. I am so sorry that this happened. Keep your eyes and ears open and a solution will make itself known. Sometimes, the worst things happen for the best. I know that's very cliche, but I've gone through some pretty terrible things in life and only come out better for it in the end.

Maybe you could offer some sort of service to the dealership or figure out a loop hole in the warranty? I really do hope it improves and that you are able to get the repairs you need or at least be able to work out a situation where the vehicle doesn't matter in the end. *big, big big big hugs* And hey, you had a great week and an awesome birthday so don't forget those things!!

Congratulations on your promotion. Sorry about all the stress and fucked up hours. I would be completely pissed at the girl who's taking a whole week off for her husband's uncle's death. Too bad you're short staffed and can't just fire her or cut her hours. Life's a bitch. (If she were easy, she'd be a slut. )

I'm glad that you enjoyed your rant. It really feels good to just let loose and rant and rave about what's annoying you.

Thanks! I did have a really nice weekend, and at least we didn't get the bad news till after my birthday.

Oh we can manage to pay for the repairs using our credit cards. It's just that we have been working so hard the past few years to reduce/get rid of our credit card debt, and this is going to be a giant step backwards. I know that there are lots of people in worse positions than hubby and I, but it doesn't really make our problems any easier to deal with.

Ugh! That last sentence is an attempt to justify my complaint to my dead mother. No matter how badly I was hurting about something, my mother would always be able to come up with an example of someone who had things worse than I did. I hated that. It didn't make me feel better; it just made me feel worse. Years and years of therapy, and I still have her voice in my head making me feel guilty any time I complain about anything. ARGHHH!!! Get out of my head you life-sucking bitch.

Hey, I'm in your corner sweetie. When my world gets flipped upside down you can bet your bottom dollar that I wallow in it until a solution comes to light and it doesn't matter to me that people in China are starving. Self-preservation is an instinct we all need to be able to survive in this world, so don't feel guilty for feeling like the whole world is on your shoulders right now. Because to you, your husband and your bank account it IS on your shoulders. And while you might be able to pay for it in the end, what sucks is that you won't be able to do the other things you were planning. And that's what life is really all about---doing the things you enjoy with the ones you love. I won't try to placate you with silver linings, but I will tell you that in the end everything will be okay and you need to do the little things that make you feel good until everything blows over. Which, hopefully, one of those things is hanging out with us!

I know exactly what you mean. Sure, I can think about people having it worse than me and I can feel a little better, but my problem still exists and thinking of those less fortunate won't solve it for me!

It sucks that this is happening for you, but ya gotta keep on keepin' on.

Hanging out with you definitely makes me feel good.

Thanks.

And I didn't mean to sound as if I were complaining about your uplifting statements. I appreciate that you have such a positive outlook on life. I, too, would like to believe that everything happens for a reason. It was just frustration when I realized that I was still trying to justify myself to the ghost of my mother that still haunts my brain.

Oh, no no no no I didn't take it that way at all. And it's easy to be positive when the world isn't shitting on your face. I was just more or less saying "yeah, been there done that and it doesn't matter who has it worse when you're the one going through it".

Sorry bout the car issues I can empathize my pennies bitch slapped me long ago from pinching them all the time

I hate it to when people go well people have it worse. In life there will always be some worse off than you and there will always be some better off than you that's life. So when someone tells me that I tell em to stuff it unless they have a solution.

I always like the expression:" And this makes it better because....?" Generally there isn't an answer to that so the "help" just stops. It doesn't help any, but it does feel good sometimes to just bring the helper to a quick halt. My wife has always wondered why I swear long and loud when things go wrong, and that is why. It doesn't help a bit, but boy does it feel good! You get some of that stress out of your system, sometimes you can laugh a bit, and then you can get back to work at finding an answer.
Whatever works for you is all you can do.

BTW, the total cost for repairs came to $2225. OUCH! But hubby and I are already discussing how we are going to cover this new credit card expense. It will all work out. It's just really, really frustrating.

Thanks for all of your support!
