Craigslist isn't the place to trust. It is full of scams. Try checking your local paper's online classifieds. They should have ads.

Newspaper, and you can usually find there listings online without having to buy a copy of the paper. Or just drive around. You can find alot of nice places that way. If you are going to look at a place on craigslist print up the ad and any pictures they gave and bring it with you.

there should be apartment listing mags in your local grocery store, where apartments pay for adds in the mag to find renters. We have them all up and down the west coast, so they should be just about everywhere in the us. I used on to find my first apartment. I could compare prices and amenities with each property before ever making a phone call.

Rent.com, apartmentguide.com, or local paper ads. I'm in the same boat and it can be really frustrating considering how fww apartments are on the sites I listed and so many are in craigslist. yet most of the CL ads have been scams, so I steer clear now.

I just went to all of the complexes I could find in the neighborhood I wanted to live in and asked for tours. I told them what I could afford abd what my needs were and I eventually found a good fit. I probably toured 3 or 4 places first though

I went for a smaller local newspaper (the artsy one, if your city has one similar!) and scored the best apartment at a great price, with an awesome landlord. Paper seems to be the best place to look, though sometimes luck is involved too!

I actually did find my latest place through Craigslist, but I also did a lot of just calling complexes that had signs up saying they were leasing. Drive around the area you want to live in and see what you can find!
