How often do you replace your matress? Do you shop quality, feel or price? How long do you try them out, in the store?

We lay for HOURS on mattresses in the store before buying one. We also go with the BEST we can find (we only have ONE back to live with our whole lives). The folks at the mattress store said a MAJORITY of people just come in and say "I need a queen size" (or whatever), "what is the cheapest thing you got"?

How do YOU shop for your mattresses. We just replaced our WATER BED, after 20 years. Several companies now run ads saying a mattress begins to "fall apart" and get too soiled after 8 years and should be replaced. Do you believe that?

We ended up with a really nice, comfy Sealy Posturpedic, but goofed up getting a SUPER THICK mattress. Cannot find sheets easy and impossibly heavy to turn.

What do you think about the matter?

I haven't had a new mattress in over 10 years. I don't believe a mattress gets too heavily soiled if you use one of those mattress covers. Mine is still in great condition. Although I am going to replace early next year in favor of a king size bed. I've never been able to sleep comfortably on a waterbed.

We recently switched from a double spring mattress hand-me-down to a memory foam mattress. Grabbed ours online after doing a fair bit of research into what foam density/width we found comfortable. We've had it for four months or so now and I couldn't imagine going back.

My mattress has a huge dip in it on one side. Needless to say they do tend to break down after years of use...at least, mine did. LOL It's like sleeping in a hole. I tend to sleep in the middle of the mattress now to avoid the dip. Hehe. A new one is in my future, maybe for Christmas.

We replace ours when our old one becomes uncomfortable. And like you, we lay on the store mattresses for a while and try to buy a good one that will last for a really long time. Right now, we're using a Tempurpedic that we've probably had for about ten years. So far, it's still doing fine, so we don't foresee a new mattress in our future anytime soon.

we have had ours for about 12 years. It still feels brand new. But then it was a high quality mattress. I suppose I will purchase a new one when this one starts to affect my sleeping.
