How many hours of sleep do you normally average a night?
How much sleep do you get?

No matter how much sleep I get it's never enough!
It depends on the night, some nights I get 2-4 hours, some nights 8, sometimes I just sleep in for 12 hours of glorious, blissful unconsciousness. My average, though, is probably around 7-8, if you disqualify extenuating circumstances (I'm looking angrily at you, final exams!)
I also love naps, though not as much as a proper night of sleep.
I also really agree with >this< philosophy on dreaming, since we're on the topic of sleep.

I've really been trying to be a good girl. I have been staying up much too late, and sleeping much too less. I've been given a curfew and I'll see how that goes. I need about 8 hours of sleep. Now a days I get 5-7 hours of sleep and that sucks.

I vary between the two extremes; I usually have trouble sleeping, but when I do sleep I sleep like the dead. Naps are mandatory.

I sleep anywhere from 7-9 hours.
11/19/2010
I need 8 - 9 hrs sleep to function!

I've been an insomniac since 11.

I need 8, I usually get about 7. I am cranky as hell with 7 and will have a nap for an hour after work.
11/19/2010
I've had chronic sleep issues for the past 10-15 years. While I may be in bed for 6 hours, I probably am asleep for a lot less. I wish I could get a good full nights sleep just once.

I sleep from 7-9 hours, but 7 is my average especially during the week. My husband and I don't stop working until 11pm, so we need wind down time and it's often 1am before we're in bed. The day starts over for us at 8am the next day when we need to get up with the kids and get them ready for school. On the weekends we sleep in until 8:45ish because my husband doesn't work until 9am (gotta love working at home where we can literally jump out of bed and walk to the computer and tada at work!) and on our days off he usually lets me sleep until I want to get up..which is usually about 8:30ish and on our days off we sometimes go to bed a bit earlier and end up getting 8-9 hours those days.

I really need at least 7 hrs but unfortunately this is not straight through due to my crazy work hours. Too many nights it is 6 hrs or less......
11/19/2010
It varies depending on what we are doing, but usually between 6-9 hours a night, unless I get a bout of insomnia then I am awake for about 3 days followed by sleeping for 14-16 hours.

I normally get the requisite 7-8 hours (not a choice to vote for) - but I also travel a lot and have to deal with frequent time changes which can really throw your routine off.
I have a deal with my wife that I will never let a golf outing or other 'guy' thing get in the way of her orgasm - so if I'm getting up at 5 AM and she wants to have sex at mid-night - I'm only getting 4 hrs of sleep that night - a small price to pay - to keep us both happy!

I need 8-9 hours if not more. I only get 7-8 most nights. I so envy people who don't need much sleep.

When I am at home, I usually get 8-9 hours a night. When I am on the road, 6-7 hours (I've been spending a lot of time on Eden).

I normally try to get 6-7 hours a night but it usualy ends up being a bit less or a bit more. I don't nap during the day unless I am sick but that's because I am usually schooling the girls or chasing my son around. He's figured out the kitchen cabinets and gotten himself stuck in a roasting pan....

I don't get enough sleep and end up napping because I need more.
I <3 cat naps with cats.

It looks like most of us are chronically sleep-deprived. I voted 6-8... during the week it's usually 5-7, on the weekends 8-9.
11/19/2010
I prefer to get 9, but with work and such I usually get 6 or 7. On days off I get 9 or 10. So I clicked 8 because averages are a beautiful thing.
11/19/2010
I get like 6-7 hours most of the time, sometimes less and then I need to take naps or have extra caffeine.

I REALLY envy those who can fall asleep within fifteen minutes of their heads hitting the pillow. I spend hours trying to relax enough to sleep, no matter what time I go to bed - midnight, 10p, 8p ... I'm not asleep until well after 2a (it was hell during the two years I worked at the diner and had to be in by 5:30a).
I've had sleep problems my whole life. Undereye dark circles are a permanent part of my appearance. It was worse when I was married and my ex snored RIGHT IN MY EARS. I think there were periods of months where I didn't get more than two hours of sleep a night. In the end, I might just be high strung anyway.
A study years ago suggested the mother's sleeping schedule affects the sleeping habits of their children ... my mother was a nightshift RN.

I aim for 7 usually. Any more and I am over-tired and any less and I am just plain tired. I do loves me a good nappies though!

I've forgotten what sleep is....
I put myself at 3-4. The youngest is teething....and all the kids seem to be in the bad habit of tag teaming me during the night. (Get one down another gets up) It's a pain...I don't know where I'd be without my caffeine..

YES, that's another part of my problem. The kids tag team me, and I just *can't* go right back to sleep. it takes me quite a while!! My mom suggested chamomile tea....but I haven't tried that yet.

I have a super weird school schedule so it's 2-3 some nights, 7-8 others... my poor thalamus.

...or should I say superior colliculus?
11/20/2010
I usually get 6-7 hours. But there are days I get way less. Weekends I can get up to 8 hours of sleep... not much more though.
11/20/2010
I try to get 6-7, but it doesn't always work that way. 7 hours is my sweet spot, that way I have enough time to get into a deep sleep and have a couple REM cycles.
11/20/2010
I can never seem to get more than 6. Because I work at night, it's hard for me to come home and go to bed when it's a beautiful day out. Even if I take sleeping pills, it takes a few hours to get to sleep.
