How many women don't shave their legs and/or armpits?

Contributor: GonetoLovehoney GonetoLovehoney
I'm curious, how many women don't shave/don't like shaving their legs and/or armpits? I personally don't shave that often, once every couple months just for upkeep. I've never seen a need to remove natural hair on an area where a person won't be pleasuring me. Also, sensitive skin=horrendous ingrown hairs and itchiness. I've never had a guy who was my lover complain or be disgusted be my natural body hair (I keep the pubic area trimmed, it's basic hygiene there).

I've let it grow out before just so I could wax it to see how much there actually was. It felt really weird. That's some thick hair!

Another random question: Why does the american culture require women to shave to 'be attractive'?

I think this statement is wrong. There are plenty of people who like hairy or natural.

I hate hair personally, I hate to have it anywhere except the top of my head.

But it's portrayed almost everywhere in our culture that women should essentially be hairless except for their head. O_o

I don't really like shaving my legs, but I do it any way, because my significant other likes it. Sometimes in the winter, I'll let it go for longer than I would in the summer (if I'm not having regular sex). My leg hair is not dark or thick or coarse, and I probably could get away with not shaving, but it doesn't feel as smooth as it would when shaven.

As for American culture, I really can't say. It's not just an American thing, because my significant other is Jamaican and prefers hairlessness.

I shave my pits and lady bits just about every time I shower (which I admit is more like every 2 or 3 days), but don't really care about my leg or arm hair. It's blonde and pretty thin, I shave it maybe every 2 or 3 months.

^_^; Sorry about assuming it's just american culture, I haven't really delved into other ones to see if it's the same.

I have to shave or I would go nuts. I'm a furry person as it is. I would look like a sasquatch if I didn't. Every time I shower, even in the winter.

My wife shaves regulary, at least every week. Smooth is the most feminine Qualities.

I don't have the time to shave every day before work, but I usually make sure to shave at least once a week. Sometimes I shave 2-3 times a week.

I don't shave my legs, I shave my armpits probably every week or so to keep the odor down. I trim my pubic hair, but that's not an aesthetic thing, more just for easier access during oral.

As for the United States - we haven't always been obsessed with hairlessness. It's actually a somewhat recent development. But, ritualistic removal of hair is not restricted to the States. Throughout time and throughout many parts of the world, hair removal on different parts of the body (including the head, then wearing wigs or headdresses on top of that) has varied in popularity. There's nothing wrong with having popular hair styling rituals, but there is a problem with telling someone they are wrong, unhygienic, disgusting or not properly representing their gender if they don't adhere to gendered hair styling rituals. I couldn't care less is someone wants to shave their hole entire body except their head. I do care when someone criticizes me because I don't care to.

I'm somewhere in between Clean Shaven and Rarely, but closer to Clean. Mostly because of the gym. If I didn't go to the gym, I would let it go in the winter.

Also, I wanted to vote on my guy's behalf but his choice wasn't up there. He doesn't "not care if" a woman has natural body hair, but actually prefers women with natural hair on their body. Obviously he respects that it's up to the individual, and it's not something he would discriminate against a potential lover based upon. But, he prefers natural hair.

I prefer natural body hair. Most of my female friends have armpit hair but they're either European or have lived in Europe.

I shave most of the time, but I also tend to get lazy and don't always care that much. Recently I've actually started plucking my armpit hairs. It doesn't hurt that much, it takes way longer to grow back, and it appeals to my OCD tendencies. I like it.

I shave my legs and armpits and down there. I do get lazy and go awhile without shaving anywhere sometimes though, being hairy doesn't really bother me, but it is nice to be nice and smooth (and my guy prefers it).

Most people I know shave everywhere, including arms, toes, etc. But yet there's still a lot of people that love the natural look also.

Depends on the season! During the winter I shave my legs once a week if the world is lucky, but every shower I shave my armpits and once a week I shave my lower bits! I also don't shave my thighs, which I thought was normal until last year...

I epilate my legs/underarms if I'm going to be wearing a skirt or tank top. I hate shaving, so I only do it if I'm going to an event, wearing a dress, and forgot my epilator.

Oh, and I trim my ladyparts if I'm going to get busy. I like the sensations better, and it's great for oral.

It does strike me as a strange obsession, but it's true - there are other cultures that do as well, and some that don't do any major hair removal. For me, I do like keeping my armpits pretty well shaven, and I like to keep my groin area from going all bushy. (I don't keep my strip up as much as I used to, but I do still keep it from bushing out entirely.) My man does not care one little bit if I'm hairy or not, so my armpits and groin are basically just because I don't find armpit hair comfortable, and keeping my groin a bit trimmed/shaved makes me feel sexy. My legs are another story altogether though. I don't keep up on them at all.

I've never had a man comment on my amount of hair negatively or positively. I think the men I've been with just didn't even notice, to be quite honest. And my man now doesn't care or notice either. It's not a big deal to me, I don't think it's nasty (how can clean hair on clean skin be nasty, you know?) nor do I think it's un-feminine. To each their own I suppose!

I don't shave legs or armpits. Probably because I am an American Indian, I have very little hair in either place, and my hubby doesn't mind a bit.

I am pretty much the same. In the winter it is not as often, but spring, summer, and fall it feels like I'm always shaving. I just feel it gives a "cleaner" look.. Not that that means a person who shaves is cleaner than one who doesn't, but for myself, I feel like it looks cleaner on me. I guess also shaving for me was a monkey-see, monkey-do thing. My mom used to shave her arms too, and when I was young, I toook her razor and did mine too (I got in A LOT of trouble). I guess I just wanted to be like my mom.

I went through a rebellious phase when I was in my late teens and didn't shave my armpits, didn't always shave my legs. I usually shaped what what under my panties somewhat, though. I grew out of this. I really think that less hair looks cleaner, feels better. I am not really religious about shaving, but I try to do everything once a week unless I'm wearing something a little revealing. I have been keeping my arm hair trimmed down more, too. I do a little modeling and body hair can be a little distracting depending on the photography.

My male significant other has been with me since before my "rebellious" phase and he didn't mind my hair too much. My mom practically pleaded with him to get me to shave! But while he didn't mind, he really prefers less hair. Since grooming more carefully, he has been liking keeping himself more groomed, too.

I hate hair. I often question why females were created with so much unwanted hair...lol.
I'd be happy to only have hair on my head and of course eyebrows. I'd kill to be totally smooth forever everywhere else - would certainly save me a lot of time!

I prefer my girl clean-shaven. Luckily she was shaving way before she met me and has no intention of stopping I was just trimming when we met, but she prefers me clean-shaven as well, so she'll whip out the razor and have at me in the shower. - Which took a little getting used to, but now I love it!

I shave my pits regularly but I don't do my legs or anywhere else. Hubby and I aren't really into oral so it doesn't bother him and in fact he prefers to pet my "fur" as he calls it. I do try to trim it every once in a while.
