How many rings before you answer the phone?

Contributor: Wicked Wahine Wicked Wahine
I leave my ringer turned off, unless I'm expecting a call. But when it's on, I hate the sound of a ringing phone so much, that I try to answer as quickly as possible. However, if I know I'm too far to comfortably get it, I don't even bother trying.

I don't get many phone calls, so I can do this. However, most people leave their ringer turned on. So, how many rings before you answer the phone?

I let it ring twice so that I can see the number on the ID. If it's my husband I pick up right away, if I don't know the number I don't answer it. Anyone else, I base on who it is.

Same for me...

If my ringer is on, its so sharp and annoying that I answer as fast as I can. However, if its a number I don't recognize I decline and wait for the voice message.

My cell is what I use most and always have it with me, well almost always, but I usually pick it up on the 1st ring, 2nd otherwise. We don't use our landline, just have it to save money on the package deal. When we did use our land line, we always monitored it for telemarketing calls. The no-call list never seemed to work.

Only long enough to see who is calling, and if it's someone I won't talk to or someone I don't know, I hit the end button. It doesn't hang up, it just keeps ringing but at least it's silent.

Leave a message, and I'll decide whether to return your call. We now get so many sales calls and robo calls, that it is not worth answering a ring.

It depends on who is calling. My parents and stuff I answer immediately. When it's coworkers, I usually ignore it; they usually want me to take their shift

I ignore the home phone, and answer the cell phone as soon as I hear it and can get to it.

lol this probably sound weird but I won't answer the phone unless it rings at least twice. On my cell I have it on vibrate, but even then I wait for the second vibration to happen before I will actually answer the call.

Well, the first ring gets a glance, the second ring is when the caller ID pops up, so by three rings I either answer it, or press end. It really depends on the number, and name. And like Mwer I let it ring a little longer if it's my mother.

I answer mine as soon as I get to it. I don't like listening to it ring either, so it's usually on vibe.

I rarely answer the house phone, my cell phone on the other hand varies. Most of the time i have my cell phone by my side, and will answer it on the first couple rings if i can. However, depending on who it is and what im doing (such as studying or homework), i'll let my voicemail pick up. Theres always the problem of me not being able to really hear my phone when it's in my purse, and i tend to lose it around the house/in my bed often, so i will miss calls pretty frequently.

Twice. It just seems...businesslike? If I'm playing "hard to get" (i.e., trying to seal a deal with someone by not appearing too eager), I'll let it ring 3 or 4 times — or just let it go to voice mail. Geez, that sounds rotten and manipulative!

As many as it takes to reach my voicemail. Ha ha ha! I really don't love being on the phone. I have seriously had 4 voicemails for at least 3 months & I never checked them. I know, it's bad, but I just tend to avoid my phone for some reason. No calls are hardly important besides my parents, lovie, grandmothers, the kids & sisters. And they usually text. I'll answer my texts or call back if it's one of them, but it can take me hours. Lol. It gets me into some annoying situations, sometimes though. Like the time my poor dad needed a ride a couple months ago because his truck ran out of gas on his way to work & wouldn't you know, I didn't answer! But I seen his call after a while & went to his truck. I felt so bad for that. Looks like I'd learn.

I usually don't keep up with my phone unless I've been texting someone. I'll leave it laying in one spot all day or in my purse or leave it at home all together! I should really keep up better. Lol. I don't get many calls either, but I do leave my ringer on. I just don't bother to answer. LOL.
