It takes me forever, sometimes even hours. My boyfriend, on the other hand, can lie down and fall asleep within 5 minutes. Makes me so jealous! So, how about you? How long does it take you to conk out?

As soon as I put my head to my pillow for sleeping.
All I have to say is make sure you have a good sleep routine!!!

Forever. I need somewhere between 15 - 40 minutes.

With medication? About an hour. Without? ...24 hours.

Did you know, if you fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow, or under 5 minutes, you are likely sleep deprived? It should take between 7-15 minutes but up to 40 isn't unheard of for normal sleep. Woman China is right, you need a good circadian rhythm. But, KKJ, you mentioned before that you had a heart transplant, so the meds you take may very well be affecting how long it takes you to fall asleep. Medication & movement disorders such as Restless Leg Syndrome are huge causes of difficulty falling asleep.

You're perfectly normal in that range; it means you are not sleep deprived!

It usually takes me between 15-45 minutes to fall asleep. Sometimes a bit sooner if I am really sleepy or have taken any medications.

I can toss and turn for hours, even when my eyes are leaking because I am so tired. I have always had an extremely hard time falling asleep...
04/23/2013
15-30 Minutes or so. Although my sleep schedule is forever changing drastically so sometimes longer.
04/23/2013
Forever. I've had sleeping problems since childhood.
04/23/2013
If I look at the clock while trying to fall asleep then my brain will obsess over why I can't fall asleep and it'll be terrible. 10-15 minutes sounds about right for me, although it might be longer my brain sometimes has trouble shutting down.

5 minutes...if that! I have a very set schedule and a pretty consistent nighttime ritual. Combine that with no caffeine and hopefully some hard exercise that day, usually I am asleep on the couch before I even make it to bed.
04/23/2013
When I keep to a workday wakeup schedule, usually within the hour. When I'm erratic, forever.
04/23/2013
It takes me quite a while to fall asleep... Hours upon hours every night. I've been having trouble sleeping for the last 4-5 years.
04/23/2013
It depends on how tired I am, sometimes I can fall asleep within minutes.

If I'm lucky a half hour, but I usually take an hour to get to sleep. However, there are quite a few times a week where no matter how long I lay in bed, or how tire I am. I just can't sleep until the sun is up. It bites, and I hate it.

It seldom takes me more than a few minutes. A couple of years ago, when I was recovering from an injury and unable to exercise for a couple of months, I had a really hard time falling asleep. Some nights I just surrendered and got back up until I was ready to pass out.

Falling asleep? What's that? No, but really. I have insomnia so some nights I don't even fall asleep, even if I took a sleep aid. I'm usually awake for at least an hour after my partner and I go to bed. And he falls asleep after about 10 minutes.

Very often it take a few hours. I contribute most of this to my computer and TV use as it keep the hindbrain "awake" since it interprets the blue light that emits from the screen as being 12pm.
I often get my best sleep when im at my partners, where we sleep in total darkness with just the fan on. However, the last few nights i've been turning off my tv once im tired and turn on some ambiant music as well as my twilight turtle and usually will fall asleep well without a lot of tossing and turning before drifting off.

Ususally I get there quick! But that's because I'm exhausted by the time I lay down for bed. I read on my Kindle as I'm going to sleep & a lot of times I don't even get past 2-3 pages before I'm out. There have been times where I've had trouble sleeping, but my biggest problem is these phases I have where I'll be able to go to sleep no problem, but won't sleep any longer than a few hours and no matter what, can't get back to sleep. That is a big pain! It screws me up for about a whole week til' I get back on track. Maybe you could try melatonin? I made a forum post about it several months ago because I'd been going through one of those phases, yet again, where I'd sleep for only a short time & I came here to ask if anyone had tried it. Good answers there & I ended up trying it & it helps so much. It's not something I take unless I am desperate though because I've read your brain will stop making its own melatonin & well, you'd be screwed then. Lol.

It takes at least 15, but is usually longer.
04/24/2013
Too long :/
04/24/2013
It varies. Some nights it's just a few minutes but sometimes I'm up for a while.
04/24/2013
5-10 minutes. If I lay awake longer than that, I might as well get up and try again later....
04/24/2013
Most nights, as soon as I lay on my stomach with my arms down by my side then I'm out like a light....but it can take sometimes about 10 minutes to fall asleep....
04/24/2013
Depends on how tired I am. If I'm not asleep within a hour of laying down, I'm up for another two hours and if I don't sleep after that, it's a all nighter.

My husband is out when he hits the pillow, then he starts snoring, which makes it hard to fall asleep. It never takes me hours though...if it did I'd just get up and do something.
