How do you pronounce "pecan"?

I'm in the pee-can, too. LOL

Pee can! haha

In Australia, it is pe-can. It's interesting to hear the way different countries say things.
One of my pet hates is the way you guys say herbs. We pronounce it with the 'h', rather than erbs.

i think i say it both ways

In New England it's PEE-can. It seems to vary regionally throughout the United States. Paula Deen is from Georgia and she says PEE-can, but other Southerners say it puh-KAHN. I don't know...confusing!

Pe-con all the way!

...you mean it isn't supposed to be pe-can? 0_o
I remember my mom pronouncing 'Pecan Sandies' that way so that's how I learned it.
Pretty much the only time I use 'pe-cahn' is if we're talking about pecan pie. xD

I grew up in South Carolina and everyone I knew said "pee-can" except for my grandma, who was from New York. As I've gotten older and taken a few linguistics courses, my pronunciations have change. I ALWAYS say "pee-CAN pie," but I will say "butter pih-KAHN ice cream" or that I'm eating "pih-KAHNs." It's now become an unconscious matter of context.

Pe-CAHN! Sometimes I say it the other way though.
01/11/2012
I actually say both, just like I say "either" as EE-ther and EYE-ther... it just depends on how it comes out at the time.
01/13/2012
I say PEE-con.

It varies, sometimes I say PE-can or pa-CON, but I've also been told I say caramel wrong.
