When your computers, Ipods, or electronics in general go on the fritz, which services do you use if any?
How do you fix your electronics?

It really depends on what it is and what's wrong with it. Hardware, software ? How complicated is the device ? Are there walkthroughs on-line ? Are parts available ? Do I have the tools, or would I have to buy them ? What would be cheaper ? Would it be better to just replace it ?

Unless it's a software problem, we let our son deal with it.

I have a good friend who knows technology so I let him fix it.

I usually fix it myself.

My husband fixes the computer related problems himself.

Well my hubby fixes it, but only if it is a virus or something. If something is wrong with a part, then forget that electronic and get a new one.

It really depends on what is wrong. At least try see what it is and see if I can do anything.

Fixing my computers usually falls to my husband or my friends. I have a few friends that are good enough at it (or I just haven't broken things as badly as I thought) that I haven't had to take my computer in to be professionally serviced yet.

I usually try to fix my own if I have a manual or can find some information online... but if I can't, I hand it to a family member lol.

Anything more than general maintenance I take it to a professional. I've had so many friends who "know a guy" and the "guy" takes their computer and it either never comes back or takes forever (as the "Guy" is busy with paying jobs) or it comes back to them in worse shape than it was when they brought it.

Electronics are not only expensive, but they are so necessary and complicated and I think it's worth it to keep them in good repair by using someone who does this for a living and isn't going to put my needs on the back burner (like the "guy" everybody knows always does.)
My husband is an engineer, but he isn't an IT guy. So, we just pay someone to fix our stuff. It's too valuable to trust to amateurs, as far as I'm concerned.
We're friends with an IT engineer. He works hard at his job, and I would never impose on him to use his free time to work on my broken electronics. In fact, I got him a T Shirt for Christmas that says, "NO, I will NOT fix your computer!" from ThinkGeek.com. He loved it as people think he has no right to free time and that he owes everyone he know free computer IT skills whenever they ask.

I try to fix it first, depending on the issue. If it is something I am not certain or incapable of repairing--it goes to the shop.

usually i can fix it without taking it to someone. unless its a computer.

Normally I fix it on my own. Success or no, I definitely tamper with it trying to fix it, and this tampering leads to A)varying degrees of success or B) critical failure. At the point of B, I will call someone else in, but by that point normally I've effed it up beyond help.

I usually try and ask a friend for help.
03/06/2012
I take stuff apart to see if there is anything I could move around and bug a little without breaking and ruining anything... Then if it still doesn't work I ask my Master to have a look at it, He knows everything in the whoooooooooole widewide world!!! ^^
03/06/2012
well If I'm annoyed enough I hit it a few times, try to figure it out on my own, and then I yell for my hubby to come fix it. I always break the electronics good thing my husband is very good with them lol.

Family members fixes it.

Fix it myself, or if it is beyond me then I'll ask someone I know who is better with whatever specific type of thing it is.

I youtube the solution until I get frustrated then take it to a shady guy across the street that voids my warranty so I can never get it sent back to the manufacturer.
