It kind of annoys me because as you said, it means different things to different people. To some, it has to be something that must be present for orgasm to be achieved. To others, it's anything that one responds to sexually. Then there's the debate over whether activities can be fetishes, or only inanimate objects. For these reasons, as well as the term's association with mental disorder, I prefer using "kink(s)".

I prefer the word kink for these reasons. But I don't mind the word fetish too much.

Never really thought of it so went to link and looked it up. I like definition #2 below the best. I like to think I have unquestioning reverence, respect and devotion to all I strive to achieve in my life.

an object regarded with awe as being the embodiment or habitation of a potent spirit or as having magical potency.
2.
any object, idea, etc., eliciting unquestioning reverence, respect, or devotion: to make a fetish of high grades.
3.
Psychology . any object or nongenital part of the body that causes a habitual erotic response or fixation.

Unfortunately, the word 'fetish' is used in a lot of ways I am not fond of. Whenever I hear the word, I always find myself listening, even when I don't mean too. Just to see if someone is using it as a sexual term, or as a way to insult somebody, which is just plain rude as far as I'm concerned. but as far as the word itself, I find I like it, as long as it's used properly.

I'm fine with it, but I wish people really understood what the word means. A fetish means you ALWAYS need it for sex, otherwise you cannot get off. I wrote a paper on it in college and most people are under the impression that it means simply something you like sexually. So, for instance, I am into cuckolding my boyfriend. I love it to no end, but it is not a fetish since I don't necessarily need it; I am just as happy when it is the two of us.
