How do you feel about euthanasia

What are your thoughts on euthanasia?

Euthanasia is assisted suicide. Dr. Kevorkian went to prison for preforming euthanasia on patients with terminal illnesses, that had no survival chance and were living miserably. He would mix drugs that were lethal, and they were administered by a machine. Upon a bottom being pushed, by the patient, the injection would then be released into the system. It would humanely put the person to sleep, putting them out of their misery.

Do you think it should be illegal? If not, do you think there should be standards put on it, such as terminally ill, or severely disabled?

I think it should be allowed for the terminally ill. After watching my father in law take 4 months to starve to death from stomach cancer-his loss of dignity and the pain he was in...

After all, we are kinder to animals who are terminal, aren't we?

I just did an entire project in my philosophy course on this. I read a ton of articles from different philosophers and it really helped me form an opinion. It was something I had never seriously thought about before that course.

I believe that voluntary active euthanasia should be legal. This means that the patient (or their legal guardian if they are unable / haven't signed an advanced direction) can choose to have their life terminated in a humane way, such as by injection. I believe it is already legal in my state, but i'm not 100% sure on that. Would it not be better to let people who are willing pass away peacefully, instead of just getting rid of their treatment? That can be extremely painful.

Besides, a lot of end-of-life hospice care is just to force people to stay alive, and that can be painful too.

I'm not weary about a slippery slope happening, as long as we make sure everything stays completely voluntary.

I also think that it should be legal, however it needs to be clear that the individual is consenting to it, which can be the problematic part.
