Most of us can ride a bicycle. So, I was thinking back to when I was a wee young kid, and how I had learned to ride a bike. At the time, I had four older siblings, and most of what I had was hand me downs, including bicycles. Also, I think that when it came my turn to learn, my parents were spent. The enthusiasm they probably had for my siblings turned into more of a chore when it was my turn. I'm not complaining, just making a point. So, I remember teaching myself to ride. I started alongside the road curb with my right foot atop the curb and side walk. I then would scoot my right foot along the top of the curb while my left foot was on the peddle. I kept pushing off my right foot until I had enough speed that I was able to put my right foot on the peddle. All of a sudden, I was bicycling. Damn that was exciting. I don't really recall just how many times I bicycled around our block, but it was a lot. I mean that I bicycled around that block, many, many times. The reason I bicycled around my block for so many times, is that I never considered how to stop.
Do you recall learning to ride a bicycle? Who helped you, or did you learn on your own? How old were you?
