Hot yoga... Has anyone else tried this?

Contributor: Melan!e Melan!e
I went to my first Moksha (hot yoga) class last night. It was so amazing!!! My class was 90mins but I had to leave the room an hour into it cause I just couldn't do it anymore. I wasn't as prepared as I should've been, I guess. I ended up getting dehydrated. But I am going again this weekend to redeem myself, and well, just cause it's awesome!

I came home and was talking to a friend on the phone who told me how jealous she was that I have a place that offers it. Apparently she's been interested in trying it for a while.

I highly recommend this to anyone who can stand the heat. I don't normally sweat much, even during an intense workout at the gym. Let me tell you... 5 mins into this class and I was dripping with sweat. It felt so good though. Even though I didn't make it through the whole session, it was really satisfying and relaxing. I am so glad I finally tried this!!

Has anyone else tried hot yoga?
How did you like it?

I've heard about and it and would love to try it. Unfortunately none of the gyms around here offer it.

Basically its just yoga done in a heated room. And it's about as hot as a sauna in there!

The class I went to was beginner level so the moves weren't difficult at all but being in the heat made it feel like a real workout. It was amazing! They shut the lights off at the end and everyone kind of winds down (but I missed that part ). Make sure to drink A LOT before going and while there and not to eat a couple hours before either.

If there's a studio around that offers it, get your wife in to try it!! She'll love it, I promise!

I just did a little reading up on it. I read that instructors will tell you to just push through it if you get dizzy or nauseous and it can be risky for people with heart conditions or low or high blood pressure.

I have very low blood pressure which may have had something to do with why I was unable to finish the class. I'll keep this in mind for my next class and see how I feel.

I didn't push myself though. You can pull muscles more easily in that kind of heat too. So you really have to listen to your body. If it's not agreeing with the heat, then hot yoga might not be for you.

I had my second hot yoga class yesterday. It was absolutely amazing!! I was a little wary going in this time, after doing a little more research. I read that people with heart conditions or high or low blood pressure could be at risk.

I have extremely low blood pressure and a bad heart but I figured worst case I would just leave the class again.

I ended up finishing the whole class comfortably this time. The room wasn't as hot and the instructor was much better. She reminded us about our breathing throughout the whole session and eased us into each position. She told us about the importance of listening to your body and only doing what your body will allow. It's about connecting your mind and body.

I loved it!! Finshing that class was the most satisfying and relaxing experience I've had in... well a long time!

I like it. It really helps my flexibility. You have to drink extra water when its over! The place I used to go for classes went out of business so I dont get to go anymore.
