Honest ladies, do you "leak" when you SNEEZE really hard?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
I have a cold and when I sneeze, well I leaked a bit of urine. I know that CAN happen, and as one ages, it happens more. How common is this, though?

Does that ever happen to YOU? (It IS annoying, to say the least).

I've heard that kegel exercises can help with this!

I used to, but I started doing kegels more and using luna ball, and I don't leak anymore.

I do after having two children vaginally, but I've heard kegels helps so I'm looking around to find the best kegel exerciser and see if it helps.

Nope, I never knew that was a thing! I've heard of peeing from laughing too hard, but not sneezing.

you can do effective kegel exercises without an exerciser. Sit straight up and imagine an invisible thread through the center of your body from your vagina all the way up through the top of your head. When you contract your kegels you want to not only squeeze but try to lift. It helps me to imagine someone pulling up on that string.

Exercisers can make them more fun, and help for reminding you to squeeze, or if you need something to grip at first.

And yes, it's fairly common as men and women age to lose a little control on their bladder.

It's more common than you think. I don't know what the actual percentage is but on a different forum someone asked if other women had this problem and 60+ percent of women said they did. I was really surprised because it wasn't a forum for older women. I don't have this problem.

Kegels absolutely will help. In fact, they were originally proposed for this exact problem. To do them effectively, set aside a few minutes to kegel where you don't have any other distractions. Then concentrate on squeezing your PC muscles as hard as you possibly can without contracting your thigh, butt or abdominal muscles. Hold for ten or more seconds. Do this 10 or 15 times.

If you try to do this while the TV is on, while you're reading or while anything else occupies your mind, you won't squeeze as hard and won't receive as much benefit.

It will take awhile before you notice the effects of this. Be patient.

BBW is right that you don't need an exerciser, although can feel better to use one. I personally like how it feels to have the Kegelcisor inside me while I kegel.

This happens to a lot of women. I do not notice this happening to me unless I am pregnant and for a short time postpartum. Kegels will help.

I've used a Kegel exercise for years, so my muscles are pretty good. That said, I had a month-long cold and by the end of I was having trouble with dripping during long coughing fits. It can happen to anyone--especially when you're repeatedly sneezing and coughing.

I do not, but I do kegels fairly often, am young and have never had a child. Childbirth destroyed all the women in my family though. O.O

Not sneezing, but coughing sometimes. I took a medication for a long time that eventually started causing leakage issues. Stopped that medication for various reasons, including that. But in some small percentage of women the problem tends to stick around. Guess who was included? Heh. So, yeah, I really do need to do the Kegels & see if it helps. I know I should, I just never think to do it.

I have no kids, but it still happens sometimes if I'm having a sneezing fit. For some reason tightening my kegels during one of these sneezing fits helps.

I've never heard of this happening before. I once peed a little from laughing too hard (though I'd been holding it in for some time anyway), but never from sneezing.

Depends on how full my bladder is and how hard the sneeze..

After having 2 kids, I had to have my bladder put back in place because of stress incontinence. Now, many years later, I have the problem again, but have no intention of having another surgery to correct the problem. I leak when I cough or sneeze. It is no big deal to me.

And unfortunately, it is very common in women as they age. Had a doctor tell me once, 'old men can't pee and old women pee all the time.' LOL
