do you perform your own home maintenance? Or do you hire someone when ever there is a problem that needs to get fixed?

It really depends on the scope of what needs to be done. Small projects that don't require any expensive special tools, such as replaceing a garage door opener or garbage disposal, I'll typically tackle myself. Anything more major, like HVAC or roofing, I'll hire someone.

Same here, it really depends on the scale of the project.

If I at all can do it myself (or with the help of friends) I will. Because it's so much less expensive. But if it's too big of a job or just plain unappealing, hire.

Neither hubby nor I are very handy. If the problem is really small, we'll try to take care of it ourselves, but for anything big, we hire someone.

I do everything the codes/insurance laws will allow me to do. Big electrical, structural improvements etc. I will have a contractor do. Even then I will be there to help out and lower the price. There is not much I can't do so I will always save the money and get a better job done when I can.

My GF is more handy than I am but I'll do anything she says, so together we've gotten quite a bit done.
Love you Baby!

We have a lot of construction related friends and family so if ever anything breaks we always have a friend to turn to for advice. We like doing things on our own, it can be frustrating, struggling with something but you feel so proud after. It is an opportunity to work together to achieve something, I like that!

I take care of a house containing myself, my husband and his two parents and their dog, as well as our two pets (a cat and a rabbit). No one does any work but me, but I keep it sparkling!

Same here. I'll give anything small a try, but anything big needs a professional. My man laughs about all the projects I am willing to take on. (And most of the time, successfully! lol)

I have done all the remolding and replacing broken items my self. The only time I bring on some one to help is with framing, and that is because my friend owns a framing business. So we can get it done a lot faster together, then I can by my self. The good thing about where I live is that the homeowner can do all the repairs and additions himself, assuming he gets a permit. You do not need to hire a general contractor. I find it cheaper to buy the tools and material and do the work myself then hiring someone to do it.

We do anything we can that doesn't require a permit or a licensed professional. My husband knows what he's doing and when to step back and let somebody else do it, he's just lacking the certifications to be able to do it all himself.

Well, this is the one good thing about living in an apartment complex. If something gets broken we have the maintenance people come fix it. I've wondered what it would be like when I finally can afford a house, but don't know how to fix anything...
