Has it seemed that all you hear on the news every night is nothing but bad news?

I have been watching the news for the past few weeks, something I dont do very often; and all I hear has been bad news. The whole news program seems to be aimed at scaring people. Kind of depressing I think.

The news has always showed primarily BAD news over good news. Nothing new.

Yea... that's how the media rolls. They get you scared then tell you to buy things. I think it's been like that for a while.

Our local news starts at 4:30 AM, going off the air at 8:00 AM for the national morning news shows. Then fires back up at noon, off at noon-thirty. Then starts again at 4:oo PM until 7:00 PM (or six depending on the station), then starts again at 10/11 (depending on the station).

I've gone so far as to try to keep a list of common crimes mentioned:

- Theft
- Arson
- Murder
- Attempted Murder
- Robbery
- Armed Robbery
- Child neglect/abuse (this is quite broad, includes physical abuse, sexual abuse or leaving a child in a hot car)

And to quote one of my favorite movies: "Man I hate that show!"

It's absolutely ridiculous in our area. They sensationalize it, yes. They repeat the same story a thousand times, yes. They aren't just reporting news, they are designing news. And frankly? I blame Ted Turner.

I agree that the news always has generally only focused on reported the bad news, this really gets more attention from people than good news unless it's some incredible miracle or a celebrity had a baby or something.

In the few instances that I've seen the news over the few years, it's been the same as when I was younger: Nothing but bad news and sports. That's why we tend not to watch it.

The whole reason I quit watching the news was because I saw nothing but bad news. I didn't pay attention to it when I was younger, so I don't know what all was on it. I did see a good news story once. it was something about a charity, I think.

It really depends on what news we watch. LA is car chases. Denver is murder, murder, murder. NY is more...odd. It hasn't really changed any in a long time.

I don't watch the news. Local news is sensationalized and networks are driven by advertisers. No thanks...

My city has one of the top 5 crime rates in the country, so news is just about always depressing.

I think it has always been that way. People only want to hear the awful things that happen, the same way people want to stop and look at a car accident.

I hardly ever watch the news because of this exact reason.

Yes-lots more bad news. I have the sense that it's because crime shows are really popular, so if you want to keep an audience watching once CSI or Law and Order SVU ends, having some criminal justice related news is a logical choice.

I haven't watched the news in a long time, but I always remember it being 99% bad news.

There's usually more shootings and other bad things happening in the City of Portland area in Oregon. I live in the suburbs where there are less bad things going on, hope it'll remain that way!
