I love asking people this question. It seems to be a midwestern term. I use it quite frequently but people from the south and other countries have never heard of it.

KITTYWAMPUS -According to Urban dictionary: Utter chaos, thrown together, unorgainzed in any sense. Crazy word from south-western wisconsin meaning-off-balanced, uncentered, or a general state of confusion.
Knocked askew. Alternate form of Kattywampus
"Slamming the door knocks the pictures on my wall all kittywampus."

The blankets on the bed became kittywampus after the long night with him.

I'm from the Pacific Northwest and I use kattywampus all the time. My fiance is from the Midwest and finds it ridiculous. It is one of my favorite words, it's so fun to say.

Never heard it used by people I know, but have heard it in movies/shows sometimes as "kattywumpus".

KATTYWAMPUS was a word introduced to me when I moved to the deep south, from the far north. It simply means anything "not quite right" or "off kilter". "The bed is Kattywampus"....or "After the bad storm blew the fence over, the posts are now all Kattywampus".
