We have always been the "don't judge a book by it's cover" couple. In high school and college I won a lot of "miss this and miss that" beauty contests (and lots of scholarship money in the process ) but really always was a real "class A" science geek.(I still am). Hubby, through high school and college was a major jock with tons of "letters", but he too was really a "pocket protector" level science geek...and still is. (Although with his bod, NO guy ever kicked sand in his face at the beach)!!
Anyway, we were not just "science geeks", but into FLYING...and a long time ago, we both got our private pilots licenses.
Thus, when on one of our FIRST dates, as we were driving along and saw a slow moving ball in the sky, with lights on it, we pulled over (rural road) and started watching....then driving along to keep up and KEEP watching. This "game" lasted almost an hour and we were SURE it was some "spaceship" from who knows where. NOTHING in our sky looked like that!!!! WELL....until it finally turned sideways a bit and we both felt like IDIOTS. WE had been "following" the pointed tail end of a BLIMP. Not even just "A blimp"....but one of THE blimps. The GOODYEAR blimp!!!!!
Years later, while visiting Paris for hubby to lecture, we saw a rather amazing ball of lights HIGH in the sky. WE...along with a few other hundred folks on the street, stood transfixed watching this thing weave and bob in the sky....jerking WAY too fast for any aircraft we knew of. This had sequential lights on it and we KNEW it was no stray balloon or planet. After about 25 minutes it smoothly flew off into the distance....and then UP out of sight.
Only the next morning did we hear that "a new type of weather balloon, designed to measure high altitude winds and sheer, had been tested". Rather then this being a "government cover up", the PUBLIC was invited to watch the next nights launch (they did three successive nights), and the news told where, when and HOW all this was going on. We actually DID go watch this being launched from a suburban airstrip and sure enough...with a lot of "egg on our faces", we watched EXACTLY what we say the prior night, lift off into the high atmosphere and get "jinked" around by different competing air currents.
SO MUCH FOR OUR UFO "encounters"!!!!!
Have YOU had any...explained or unexplained?
