I love salt water taffy, but I haven't pulled any since I was a preteen (and then, I recall my momma having to do most of the heavy lifting. err, tugging?). I've recently been considering getting some yummy extracts and making some for the summer, but I'm wondering if it's really worth the time/energy to hand-make. I only vaguely remember the experience, so I trust you guys more than I trust my own memory. =)
Have you ever pulled Salt Water Taffy?

I have never done it. But there is candy place the next state over that does it. I should take a road trip.

I have never done it, would not mind doing it if I had the room in my kitchen.

Don't even know what that is

I would go to the store and get it from there. It sounds like a lot of work to pull it on your own.

I have never pulled salt water taffy. It sounds like a lot of fun, but I try my best not to eat sweets, and I feel I wouldn't be able to stop if I was pulling my own taffy.

I haven't pulled taffy. But if you are looking for the best-ever, creamy, buttery, amazingly delicious taffy, here's where to get it (they do mail order and only charge actual shipping cost):
Phillips Candy, Seaside Oregon

Never done it, but no reason not to.

I've never tried salt water taffy and I don't even know what it is.

Judging from EF's shipping costs to Canada, I might have to wait until I'm down in the States again before ordering too many American goods.

Reading the reviews, it sounds like the kind of place that is totally worth a visit, not just ordering from! I love caramels and chocolates, and it sounds like they have a ton of different candy as well! If it weren't on the complete other side of the continent, I would definitely consider a road trip.

I probably wouldn't try it because I'm not that much into taffy.

I wouldn't seek out doing it because I don't care for taffy. However, if I was somewhere & it was going on & someone asked me to try it...I would because I like new experiences & learning how to do things.

Wait a minute, taffy can be buttery & creamy? I haven't ever tried any like that! That sounds nummy & I love my caramels. I may have to rethink this whole not liking taffy business, perhaps I just haven't had good taffy!

Precisely. I never liked taffy either, until I tried theirs! It is really amazing. I order some a couple of times per year. I think it's $7 per pound, plus around $7 for priority mail shipping for 2 lbs. (but I'm just one state away from them so postage is on the low side). And yes, it IS creamy and buttery! They actually have Butter-flavored taffy, and it's quite like caramel but a little different. They have some fruit flavors, which aren't super fruity and sweet like most taffy, but creamy and rich with mellow fruit flavor (orange and lime come to mind). I love the peppermint and cinnamon too. They have chocolate, and peanut butter, and a few others...Jeez I'd better quit going on about it and just order some...

There is another place to order the taffy from, and they occasionally have sales or free shipping offers, making it less expensive than ordering direct:

Surreptitious:
Seaside Oregon is a fun place to visit. They have a large tourist industry in the summer. They have a (windy)sandy beach, a "promenade" to walk along above the beach, lots of shops and restaurants, lots of hotels/condos. There is a big arcade for teens & kids, an aquarium, a beautiful antique carousel, candy shops... It's probably not so exciting that you would travel cross-country, but if you ever find yourself on this side of the US it might be worth a stop. It's about 4-5 hours from me and we go every couple of years. The Phillips Candy shop is one of several candy shops in town, but they have the best taffy by far--they still make their stuff onsite, and the taffy is made on an antique pulling machine from a hundred years ago or something. They also have to-die-for cheese popcorn.
