Have you ever had a horrible customer service experience?

Toys'R'Us had these Huggies Santa Christmas diapers on sale. I live out of town, and so I ordered them online so that they didn't run out before I could get into town. I ordered 2 packs of them, and did in store pickup. Two days later, I drove 30 miles to toys r us to get them. I went up to the counter (my husband and the kids were waiting in the car, because I figured it wouldn't take too long) and told the lady I had an order to pick up. She did some stuff on the computer and said it would be right up. 15 minutes later, I asked if it was going to be up soon, and she said 'Let me check' and called someone over her walkie talkie to see if they had gotten the pull order. They said no, and that they would have it up in a few minutes. SO I waited. 15 minutes after that, I asked her again, and she called again, and someone came up and said that they didn't have them. I said 'If I do an in store pickup, aren't you supposed to hold them for me?' He said yes. I said 'Well.... do you have any in stock at all?' He said no. I asked him if any of the other stores in town had them, and he said no. I asked to speak to a manager, and he said they were all busy. I said 'So, I paid for them online, drove 30 miles here, just to find out that you sold my order to someone else, and I can't even talk to a manager to resolve this?' And he said 'Sorry... I can refund your money if you want to just do that.' And that was it....

I was SO pissed! And I called their customer service number, and all they said was 'Okay, I'll pass this on to the right people, and someone will get back to you in 7-14 business days.'

Have you ever had an experience like this? What did you do?

Well Toys'R'Us would make my list too. I ordered two Lego sets on sale, only to find out that they weren't available in store and the sale wasn't actually valid online...yet the website let me order them without any issue. After talking to two managers, they just offered to order them for me at full price...which was more than on Amazon.

Avoid United Airlines like the plague! I had two travel days from hell flying to and from Madison, WI. After half a dozen delayed flights, I was almost stranded in Milwaukee on the way to Madison. I almost didn't make it out of Wisconsin because somewhere in the mess that was the outgoing flight, they cancelled my reservation for the return flight. I complain several times about the service. The United people would send me to Continental (because they were merging) and Continental would say they couldn't do anything. I never received any of the normal vouchers or received a response from management.

A buddy of mine works IT for United. Because the Continental boys were in charge, with the merger they took a giant step BACKWARDS in their IT processing.

My mom is IT for United too, and after the merger things definitely took a bit of a hit.

I haven't had any for a while, but my mom had one this weekend. Carson's was having a big sale during a specific time period. My mom shows up not too long after it starts, asks where the things she's looking for are, gets given the runaround and then very nastily told that everything sold out before the store even opened. She left her cart with the rude manager, came home, and fired off a very angry email to their customer service department.

That's awful!

I've had some not so great customer service before. I don't hesitate to complain to corporate if I do and it's not resolved in store.

I honestly have no idea, but I know it takes a really rotten attitude to get my mom upset enough to leave everything else she was planning on buying.

I have two that always stand out for me

Comcast: One day our service was cut off for "nonpayment" only the bill was paid in full and on time. So my mom had to go wait in line for several hours to get it fixed. Ok, mistakes happen only 2 days later....they cut it off again! They wrongfully cut it off again. To make maters worse I had to submit an assignment for on online class that day, i need the internet. My mom was at work and couldn't leave the house because so i call them up the automatic system ask for your account info and when it does it will play a recording tell you to pay and refuses to let you connect with a human. So i had to choice but to pay the wrongfully charges to get service back when I could go to their service center the people keep asking why i paid the wrong charges, because you damn system wouldn't let me speak to a human till I did.

The second one is so bad I going to have to come back with more time on my hands to explain that one...it is that bad.

Yes. We'll call this place "Bank of America." Every time I dealt with those assholes I ended up losing money. So i did the best thing I've ever done and just closed my account with them.

The local Burger King is terrible with customer service. Unfortunately, when it's late at night and McDonald's is close for construction, there's really no other place to eat.

When I go there, I am forced to wait sometimes up to half an hour for my food and by the time I get it, it's cold and mushy. The people running the register never greet me or make me feel welcome in any way. One time, the girl was busy fiddling with her bra, under her shirt, while serving some older people. The employees always park in the parking spots closest to the front door, too, which really irritates me. At my job, we're supposed to park pretty far away from the door. It's courtesy for customers, because then they don't have to walk as far.

Qwest, we will never sign up their service again. My wife has been dealing with them for all kinds of things and than even after she cancelled her service with them almost a year later problems came up wih them again. I will not give them any of my business ever.

Here, here! I did the same thing. At some point, I should be getting some money from that class action lawsuit.

My wife was a bank teller for a while in college. She was called a racist on a regular basis by Mexicans for not allowing them to cash a check without an ID or account - which is required by law. Of course, she couldn't tell him to shove it and obey the law like everyone else because her boss was a big baby who wouldn't stand up to anyone. She also had a Black man call her a bigot for the same reason. That is from the other side of the curtain though. As far as companies we've dealt with, Wells Fargo is the worst! Avoid at all costs! They jerked us around for three months...and that was after our home offer was accepted...argh

I've had my share of bad customer service coughSprintcough.

The best way to avoid it is to work with the direct person you're speaking to. They are just as beholden to the policies as we are, but might know a work-around or two to help you out. Remember that they're placed on the front lines to deal with irate customers. If you're nice to them, they'll be more apt to work with you. Besides, being nice to them could punctuate their day filled with irate customers.

I agree with Chaos, Comcast is BAD with their CS.
