I went to the place on Friday it was call "Texas de Brazil." It was a nice place, but I was not dressed for the matter. Needless to say I didn't know we were going to a fancy place. I really did enjoy it. The food was amazing and so was the service. The price was more than I'd like to pay. Please explain your high class adventure.
Have you ever been to a five star restaurant?

yes i love to eat at 5 star restaurants

No, they aren't really my type of scene.
I'd rather a quiet night in with someone special, where I cook.

I like to eat at different restaurants because I love to taste the new favors they bring to the table, but a lot of time I am busy in my own kitchen.

I havent been and probly never will because there are places with just as good of food for way cheaper. I have learned by a chef that cooks at one how to make some of the food and its not all that hard but takes a lot of practice.

I've been to a couple but one was really bad service and we didn't even get the menu for forty minutes. We won't be going back there, but we still enjoy them for really special occasions.

My entire family (my moms side of parents, 5 siblings and their children) went on a river boat cruise on the Mississippi when I was in high school. As part of the trip we stayed a week in New Orleans. We were also given gift vouchers for dinner at several five star restaurants. The first we went to was in this outside garden and while the food was amazing the atmosphere was really laid back. The second one we went to I felt really under dressed. They ended up sticking us in a room by ourselves. The food was amazing and the service was fantastic but it felt like they were trying to hide us. We still had fun so we didn't really mind much.

I stayed at a 5 star hotel in South korea and had dinner in their 5 star restaurant. I do not eat out often, because I am a classical trained chef and cook at home all the time. The food I cook at home beats most restaurants. But if I want to pay for the atmosphere, then I go out and eat.
05/23/2011
No, but I'd like to eat at one some day...My family didn't and still doesn't have a lot of money, so as a kid "eating out" meant walking down the street to McDonalds. I now think it's pretty funny a Happy Meal seemed like high class dining to me.
However, I have been to a lot of great restaurants that might not have had the atmosphere (or the prices), but definitely had amazing food. You can never beat fresh and well prepared!

I have been to many and the food and service has always been excellent. EXcepting the one time I got slow, lousy service and the food arrived cold. When I complained, do you know what they had the nerve to tell me? That Fred Smith was dining there tonight and had all precedence! As if they only had one waiter and one cook and they were exclusive to Fred Smith! Needless to say I left my dinner untouched and we did not tip the waiter. It was the tackiest excuse I had ever heard for bad service and cold food. My date talked to management. They did offer to make it right on another night, but that seemed to be another insult! What about right now tonight! Needless to say, we never stepped foot in there again. We may not have had the wealth and noteriety of Fred Smith, but we were paying customers, and the prices were extremely high. I'm getting pissed just remembering it! Ugh! By the way that restaurant went out of business shortly after that and I was glad!

If they knew they'd be neglecting their other customers, they easily could have told you so at the door and let you make your own decision, too!

I did once, when I was traveling with a colleague from China who enjoyed 'luxury' things a good deal. She and I got a nice surprise while we were on the road, and decided to eat at a fancy restaurant to celebrate. We were traveling through a town where I had some friends, so I invited a few of my local friends as well.
I was really impressed with the quality of the food, the level of service (they created two individual vegetarian dishes for two of our party, on the spot), the flavor, presentation, and the desserts. (!) It wasn't even horrifyingly expensive (we ordered ala carte, not the tasting menu), just the same as if you were paying for both your meal and your date's meal, really.
I was very impressed with everything, but I did have to roll my eyes at one point---one of my friends (dressed in black) didn't know to put her (white) napkin on her lap, so when the waiter came after the salad had arrived he told her "We have black ones, if the white napkin doesn't match." In my opinion, it hadn't been harming the other guests' experiences if my friend didn't have her napkin on her lap, and my friend didn't even understand his hint anyway.
Other than that---delicious. I would definitely go again.

like great food.
05/24/2011
Yes, wasn't worth it. Portions are too small, lacks the salt that it needs. lol

I wish I had.

Yes, my mom's boyfriend at the time actually worked there. We were treated really well, were surrounded by celebrities, ate expensive food, drank a ton of booze, and got to stay until a few hours after closing. It was really nice. Thankfully the owner footed the bill. The only other time I've ever been to a 5 star place was not worth it, the food was not that great, portions were small, drinks were pricey and weak. I think it's only worth it if you can easily afford to go to such places without making a huge dent in your pocket book.

No but I'd like to. I'd really like to go to a restaurant run by those famous TV chef to see if they live up to the hype.

Opps! I have been to Texas de Brazil and loved it. They recently opened one up just outside NYC (almost 3 hrs from us) and we are planning to go again.

We don't have one close

I don't enjoy dressing up just to go eat, and I'm picky. Plus, I'm cheap!

I'd like to try it at least once, I did High Tea at the Empress Hotel if that counts.

I have been to several "5 star" dining establishments in the USA and Europe. In several cases, they were VERY expensive, but I left NOT feeling I got my money's worth. In another couple of cases, I had SUPERB meals in every way. However, the BEST restaurants I have ever eaten at, honestly, were LOCAL places, without being overpriced or fancy, but where there was SUCH attention to the custom and SUCH amazing food, I left feeling like I had just enjoyed an "eating party" and often the costs were VERY reasonable. In short, these UNRATED places were "6 star" in my book.

We don't have any 5 Stars around here and we wouldn't be able to afford them anyway.
09/27/2012
The closest I've been to that was staying in a 5 star hotel in high school with the marching band. The hotel we booked had overbooked and they upgraded the entire band to their sister hotel. Needless to say it was uncomfortable walking in to the place in shorts and t-shirts when everyone else was in gowns and tuxes.

Yes, the most amazing upscale steakhouse. The food was incredible and my napkin was folded into a different shape everything I came back from the bathroom! I don't need to be waited on hand and foot to enjoy dinner but that certainly helped the experience. The steak was the most flavorful I have ever had. I won't even get started on the incredible sides. Get to go again next month for my anniversary!
