With so many people looking for work, I was wondering how many on EF have ever been laid off from their job?
Have you ever been laid off from a job?

Yep, once, but thank God I was only out of work for two weeks since I had something lined up afterwards.

I just got laid off because my short term disability ended and I'm in the process of appealing a decline for long term disability. They let me go and said I'd be reinstated if I won my appeal.

No I have been lucky. I started in fast foods while in college, then went to the hospital to work and have worked as a nurse since then. 19 more months and I can retire!

I've been very lucky... and I say that even with my recent posts on my issues at work. I've worked at the same place for about 5 years. It's not a great job, but in this economy, I'm lucky to have it.

My hubby was laid off for 98 out of 99 weeks of his unemployment. The place he was working at just close their doors one day. It was awful for us. We had to line up at the welfare office. Luckily they helped us out. And he finally got a call for a job. Hubbies trade is a dying industry. It's sad because that is all he knows how to do. He has been doing it since he was 17. Now, they want to get him to learn something else.

A few times. It's always rough and you have to wonder if it's a situation of "trimming the fat", a "personality conflict", or if they really just don't have the money.
My previous employer before Eden was a seasonal job and I knew I would be laid-off when September of that year rolled around. It was at that time that my husband and I decided that it would be better for us financially and emotionally if I just stopped working altogether. And then I became incredibly bored and felt spoiled beyond belief...
I love start-up companies and small business ventures (I've worked in all manner of environments) and those are often the first to lay people off when hard times hit.

A few times, but I always was able to find a new job in short order...until 2009. Then I was on unemployment for 2 1/2 years, mostly because we moved to a new state with not many jobs in the first place.

Wow retiring at 53! I just turned 58 and there is no prospect for me to retire for at least 10 years!

I have been laid off 2x. Once I started my own business that lasted 7 years and the second time it took about 8 weeks to find a new job. That was pre 'great recession' - if I lost my job now (which is a distinct possibility) it would take too long to find a job, so I would probably start another small business.

Nope, I've been lucky

Nope, but then again, I'm not out in the real world yet and won't be for another three years.
