I recently unknowingly washed and dried my favorite wool sweater(had no clue it was in the load of clothes). Might fit a small child now.

Anyone else ever done something like this?

I haven't, but my ex-husband had completely ruined a red wool coat of mine that was originally $175 or so by sticking it in the washing machine. When it says "Dry Clean Only" ...

I have. I accidentally dried my favorite maxi dress and it shrunk I was able to stretch it but it caused tiny rips to appear along the seams. I still wear it, I just have to be careful now.

No I haven't I usually don't toss clothes in the washer in a pile, as tedious as it sounds I put one piece in at a time so I know what is going in the wash. Sorry to hear about your sweater, hopefully what Ex-prude posted might help.

Someone in my house hand washed my hand-painted crepe silk dress. A $350 dress, ruined. I think tears were involved, and much nashing of teeth and one quick exit.
