Here, we have at least a dozen within a few miles (none are the same chain or related). You pick a cup up at the door, fill it from various flavor spigots, then choose from dozens of toppings, then weigh your creation. Price is by "weight" and by the time you are done, you can easily have a ten dollar bowl of ice cream and toppings!!! Do you have these places where you live?
Have "self serve, soft serve" ice cream shops sprung up like weeds in your town?

I have absolutely heard of this.
02/01/2013
NO! But we need some! That sounds awesome!
02/01/2013
No. I think I might have seen one but I am not sure. I don't like them, though. It's usually VERY overpriced.
02/01/2013
Yes! And I absolutely looooooove them.
02/01/2013
No but I'd love to live near one. That sounds like fun.
02/01/2013
Yeah, we have tons of those. At least one in every mall. Usually price for me is 8 bucks, and that's using light toppings.
02/02/2013
Yes, they are popping up everywhere here. They charge almost $4 for a very small cup. It is ridiculous.
02/02/2013
We have about 3 of them in my area. I love these places, but my only problem is that they should have different size bowls instead of one big one. That way you don't go topping crazy.
02/02/2013
Honestly I'm not sure how many we have here, I know of 2 personally, but I don't go near malls or anything like that.
I really like the one I've gone to here. The ice cream is fantastic, they have really yummy flavors and the toppings are good. I sure wouldn't go all the time, but every now and then it's fun. I usually end up around $5, so it is definitely not the cheapest way to get ice cream!

I haven't noticed, as I usually just buy it from the grocery store.

We have at least 40 self serve frozen yogurt bars, but zero soft serve icecream bars. I want an icecream one!

I certainly hope they start poppin' up here! We have NOTHING like that. The only thing like that we have ever had was a TCBY or whatever inside a gas station years ago.

We have one, but it's been here for a while. No new ones as of yet.
02/02/2013
Oh, there are quite a few near me. To be honest, as much as I like soft serve, I still view it as a cheap thing. If I wanted to pay ten bucks for ice cream I would buy some at the grocery store and a whole bottle of sprinkles.
02/02/2013
Not really any new ones

I haven't even heard of this!

I'm surprised we have as many self-serve ice cream and yogurt shops as we do in my town--we're not very big! I think we have at least five. They are mostly on the college side of our town.
At first I was a little hesitant to visit these rapidly appearing places--they all had too similar sounding names (Berry, berri, even a foreign language word for a berry in them!), all looked very trendy in the same ways. One of my favorite TCBY turned into an imitation of these self-serves! Weird! But then we started going to a self-serve near my house and I loved this one. It makes sense economically as less people have to run the shop. All you do is get a cup, fill it up with a combination of whatever you want, take it to the register! It's nice for a quiet person like me who likes a lot of toppings.
I recommend going to this sort of shop if you like going out for treats. If you don't know if you have one in your town, look it up online!

We only have one of those around here but I saw them everywhere when I was on vacation in downtown Chicago.
02/02/2013
Never heard of this?
02/02/2013
yes, a bunch! I have never gone to one though, because for some reason they aren't popping in my immediate vicinity (ie, walking distance!). Which is strange because I live in a city center....I bet it's just a matter of time!
02/02/2013
We only have one frozen yogurt place that is run like that, that I know of. It's a bit expensive, but usually my husband, son, and I get out of there for about $10 - 12 total.
02/02/2013
Yes, one a block away and a few others in neighboring towns...only they are frozen yogurt, not ice cream. Must be a new biz plan going wild. Oddly they opened in winter too.
02/02/2013
Only on self serve frozen yogurt place in my town.
02/02/2013
Never heard of these, but I'd be all about going to one!
02/02/2013
one about an hour from me and thats the closest. its very good and we have stopped there a couple of times when were in the city shopping.
02/02/2013
They are popping up like weeds. I love them.
