I love halloween mostly because I can buy lots of cat ears to wear randomly during the year. Hot topic has some purple/pink ones that would look awesome with my hair. Totally going go pick them up today.

I've browsed hundreds of vendors and I just can't find a set of cat ears that I like. I don't like paying for stuff I don't really want, so I don't buy any.

You could always have some handmade to your specifications. I know many artists (but a quick search on Etsy should help).

I have a headband with cat ears, I want the strap on cat ears that are heavier and nicer looking, that aren't so obvious as a headband

Just to put it out there check out redvinylkittys profile. I think she makes them almost custom to what you want.

I'd die for a nice (realistic) pair of wolf/fox/cat ears, but it looks like I'll have to make them myself because all the ears I find are frou-frou and usually sparkle in some way, shape, or form.

They're not, really...it's just that finding quality ones that suit your taste and are within whatever your budget is can be a daunting task, especially having to weed through masses of other ears that you don't like to find a pair you do.
It can be sort of like a needle in a haystack sometimes, depending on what you're looking for.
