Do you ever feel guilty about going home from work sick?

I make it a point to play hooky one day per month, *cough-cough*. Owning a retail/service business is a bit stressful and I find that I do better after an unexpected day at home relaxing.

I normally have to be forced to stay home or those times I cant leave the bathroom/bed.

I am a teacher, so its always more work to miss a day than to just suffer through.
07/11/2012
i only do because i know i wont hear the end of it for my co workers

No, if I'm sick then it's best to go home and not get anyone else sick.
07/11/2012
If I'm really sick, then I'll take off work. I haven't done that in a long time though.
07/11/2012
It depends. If I'm really sick then it doesn't bother me, but If I'm just playing hooky, it does.

Being ill is a human condition, it happens and it should be taken seriously. Going home for one day can save your coworkers from missing work and ensure that you are only taking 1-2 days off instead a week or more!

I feel guilty forever if I go home sick. I rarely ever do.
07/11/2012
I'm all about taking sick days.
07/11/2012
I wouldn't feel bad if I actually was sick
07/11/2012
No, it doesn't bother me at all.
07/11/2012
No, I won't leave work unless I was REALLY sick.
07/11/2012
No, I don't feel guilty. I don't want to get everyone sick.

I have a home office - so if I don't feel good, I can just lay down for an hour or so. I usually feel well enough then to continue.
07/12/2012
Naw, especially because I work from home, always.
07/12/2012
I don't have a job
07/12/2012
If I'm really needed/it's busy then yes.

If I am sick, no I'm not feeling guilty for anything. I have been sick a lot due to yucky stomach conditions. I don't feel guilty because when I'm so sick that I need to leave work and be home, I'm not going to be worth a crap to anybody. Plus, if it's contagious, I'd only be doing everyone who had to come in contact with me a favor by staying home.

No need to feel guilty. If you're sick, you're sick. You can't help that. If you feel guilty, just promise yourself that you'll work extra hard once you're feeling better, maybe get a little something extra done?

I work with newborns and often with premies. Of course, I also work with their mothers and often their older, but still very young siblings.
At our agency, we are required to let them know if we are sick. And we are required to then NOT work with patients. A cold or tummy bug could be devastating to a newborn or preterm baby. Not to mention make things very difficult for a new mother.
I honestly think it's very rude to show up to work sneezing and coughing, barfing, having diarrhea or otherwise contagious. There is no "strength" in toughing it out, when it will result in making either your co-workers or your clients sick. Nobody is that indispensable. A day or so away from your job isn't going to cause the world to stop turning.
So, no, I don't feel guilty when I have to take a sick day. I'd feel more guilty if I went to work and could have made other people ill.

I'm a stay at home mom! There is nothing that can get me out of this job. If I did get really sick; my mom would come up to help me take care of my sons. But I haven't had to do that yet.
07/12/2012
Nope, since it'd spread to everyone else.

Ditto on the no days off for mommies. If I'm REALLY sick, hubs will take the day off of work to watch the kids. If I just feel blech, then I'm on my own.

yeah, usually at the start and the end of that day, briefly

When I started the job I have right now my boss specifically told me that she expected that I'd be taking around 1 day a month as a "sick" day whether I was sick or not. No big deal. So, nope, don't really feel guilty about missing days whether I'm actually sick or not. Plus I can usually work on any essential things from home if really needed.

I hate taking sick days I feel guilty, if I wasn't sick and did it would eat at me terribly.
