Are you giving up anything for Lent this year (2013) ?

Contributor: spiced spiced
Yesterday was Mardi Gras, which means today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of the penitential season of Lent, which lasts until Easter. Traditionally, Catholics and some others give up something for the duration.

How about you? Are you giving up anything for Lent this year?

I'm giving up (most) of the features on my iPhone. I will still use maps, calendar, etc. And text and calling. But not entertainment stuff - I kill WAY too much time on my phone!

You don't have to 'give something up'. It's much more productive to do something good. Donate more to the needy, pray more, do more random acts of kindness. Make it a positive experience!

We are going to go to church more often now that our daughter is two and get her used to it. Be thankful for our many blessings and try to be more involved in our church.

When I was in high school my parents (who are catholic) asked me what I was giving up. To piss them off and get out of giving up anything I said "Socks and shoes" and I was serious but they said "Never mind, just don't worry about it..."

I love this! I had an aunt who would give up ice cream every year, and donate the money she would have spent on ice cream to charity. I think I'll do the same this year - but without giving anything up!

Random acts of kindness are always good, no matter what the season.
