Genetics- hair color & eye color?

Contributor: xOhxSoxScandalousx xOhxSoxScandalousx
I think it's pretty crazy how genetics work. My father and mother are both Puerto Rican. My mom's natural hair color is dark brown and my fathers is blonde(now its got a grey tone to it). My dad has green eyes and my mom has dark brown eyes. My dad doesn't look Spanish at all.

I came out with brown eyes(sometimes light brown in certain lights) and my natural hair color is brown/medium brown. None of us came out like my dad.

My husband is white(Irish, German, English, Norwegian, and Spanish). He has blonde hair and brown hazel eyes. His mom has blue eyes and her natural hair color is blonde. His dad has blonde hair(more of a dark brown now) and brown eyes.

Our daughter came out with blonde hair and blue eyes. How crazy is that? Brown eyes and brown hair are usually very dominant genes so I was very surprised when she was born.

How about you? What color is your natural hair and eye color? How about your parents? What about your kids?

My ex-husband's family got a shock when their mainly-German (blonde-hair, blue-eye) family somehow produced a mulatto child ... yes, paternity tests were done, the father was the mother's husband. I suspect there was an assignation or marriage back in time that no one talked about and the randomness of gene shuffling brought it up again.

My genetic shuffling made me look entirely Irish (pale, freckles, blue eyes, etc) ... except for the dark blonde hair which has to be dyed red so I "make sense". People can't wrap their heads around the fact that I was not born a redhead. (Well, I was, but nobody has to know about the carpet while they're looking at the drapes.)

I was born to two dark haired and brown eyed parents whom are white. I came out the same. My sister is blonde with green eyes. My hubby has light brown hair with red highlights, though now it's grey and blue eyes. We popped out two blonde hair, blue eyed children together. Crazy huh?

I have natural blonde hair and green eyes. My parents are both white. My mom has brown hair and eyes and my dad had blonde hair as a kid but it turned black in his teen years. My dad has green eyes too. I don't have any kids yet. But I have 2 half sisters. We all have the same (initially) blonde haired green eyed dad and all 3 moms are brown haired and brown eyed. The 3 of us have blonde hair and green eyes. I'd say my dad has some pretty dominant genes!

Both my parents and brother have extremely dark brown hair and dark brown eyes.
I was born with pure blonde hair and bright blue eyes. When I was 13 my eyes changed to green with a blue ring around the outside and my hair has become medium brown.

I also have much paler skin than them. I must be the milkmans....

My Mother has brown eyes and hair and my Father was born blonde and went jet black as he grew up and he has hazel eyes green/blue.
I have changeable brown eyes (sometimes light brown, sometimes yellow) and deep brown hair while my sister is a dark brown with blue eyes.

Sigel has blue/green hazel eyes and light brown hair.

Our oldest has hazel brown/green eyes and dark brown hair
Middle child has light brown hair and blue eyes.

Arch has light blonde hair and blue eyes

Our son has shining blonde hair and clear blue eyes (no hazeling)

No one can tell who the father of my kids is...they could be either guy!

Most of Sigel's and my family are European and Slavic but we have just enough American Indian (I have no idea what tribe we belong to) that my oldest daughter looks like the pictures we have seen of my ancestor, a shaman chief named 'Two Turkeys'. She has the classic cheekbones and beautiful straight dark hair of her ancestors.

Now our middle girl looks Slavic down to her little pointy chin and pale skin.

My son looks completely Slavic...from body structure to hair and eyes, but he tans well instead of looking like a boiled lobster (like his dad LOL)

Genetics is amazing!

My mother and her whole side of the family have light eyes and hair colors ranging from auburn to brown. They are also very pale. My father's side of the family has very dark hair and eyes, and are less pale. What did I end up with? Almost black hair, medium eyes, and the palest skin of anyone on any branch of the family tree. *shakes head*

Indeed they are amazing - I look nothing like my father's side of the family (save for the complexion and eyes) while I look exactly like my mother's side of the family (I'm told I look like a plush version of my mother's older sister - which was very funny when my father finally figured it out because he's always found her very attractive).

Incidentally, my mother has brown hair and green eyes (and pale), and my father has red hair and blue eyes (and freckled). My family's Celtic on both sides with a smattering of German and Scandinavian thrown in.

Your girls sound lovely, and I'm sure the Monkey is going to be a heartbreaker when he grows up.

My father is of Mediterranean ancestry (mostly from Southern Italy) and had dark brown hair, almost black, and hazel eyes. He has fairly olive dark skin. He's been all gray since he was in his 20s. My mother is of Celtic Ancestry, (mostly Ireland) and had strawberry blonde hair with blue eyes and very pale skin. (She's one of those people who can get sunburn from a 150 watt light bulb. )

I have skin that changes, if I have not been in the sun or religiously using sun block, I'm olive/fair, but I turn nut brown quickly in the sun. (People think I'm Latina all the time, every body who speaks Spanish talks to me in Spanish and then is surprised that my Spanish is so terrible and that I'm not really Latina.) I have green/grey eyes, and dark brown hair (which I dye blue/black) If I don't go into the sun, my skin is olive, but on the pale side. It's hard to find the right foundation. My hair is curly.

My husband is Eastern European, mostly from the Bohemia region of the Czech Republic and Poland, with some Austrian thrown in. He has sandy brown hair and very green eyes. He was blonde as a baby. His skin is redder than mine, and he never wears sun screen, so he's fairly dark in the summer. Bohemians tend to be dark skinned people, as a rule. He has curly hair.

We have three kids, the oldest has brown eyes (we each have a grandmother with brown eyes) and light brown hair. Her skin is fair. She has wavy hair. She dyes her hair dark, and then she looks nearly exactly like me. It's bizarre, family who haven't seen us for a while have mistaken her for me. I am a bit older than she is, being her mother.

Our middle daughter was a blonde baby, but it darkened to a dishwater blonde as she got older. She has amazing curly hair, (down to her butt) it looks like a spiral perm. She had a head full of "springs" when she was a baby from that hair! She has piercing green eyes and tans easily. She was always brown as a baby, toddler and child, even with sun screen.

Our youngest has the darkest hair, similar to mine. It's curly, but more wavy most of the time (and she and her sister attach their hair with the flat iron regularly. As do I.) She had blue eyes for the first year, then they turned the same grey/green that mine are. Her skin tone is fair/medium. She doesn't play in the sun much (she's a book worm and a computer geek) but I think she would get fairly dark if she did, similarly to how I did when I was a child, before people worried a lot about sun screen. I was always brown as a child.

The two "Book End Kids" (oldest and youngest) look just like me, while the middle one resembles her father's side of the family. Odd, as babies, the Book Ends looked just like HIM and the middle one looked like a carbon copy of me as a baby! They all have my husband's strong wide jaw. They also all have my eyes, I guess they got the curly hair from both of us. My parents are both curly, but neither of my husband's parents are. They don't know where his curly hair came from, but he looks exactly like his father with curly hair!

They are!! He has 4 children total. Three boys and one girl. The one girl and the one boy mother is a pale skin brown hair and brown eyed woman also. Only the girl came out with dark hair and dark eyes. Only all 4 of them look just like him. All four of them have his egg shape head, thin but elongated chin, bug eyes, thick eyelashes, and more. It's insane how dominant his genes are.

All four of the kids in my family inherited my dad's blue eyes and lighter hair rather than my mom's dark hair and eyes.

My son has his dad's hazel eyes. We joke that he's my black son. Although his skin is white, he has many body characteristics that are more common among black folks. Most of them he seems to have acquired on his own. (Or was it that black mailman we had at the time?)

My brother, sister and myself all look completely different! My mother is Indian and French (dark hair and eyes)and my Dad is German and Indian (dark hair and blue eyes). My brother looks Mexican, I look pure Indian and my sister looks German. My brother is extremely dark skin, dark hair, dark brown eyes. I have medium brown hair, brown eyes and dark complection (like a mocha lol) and my sister is pale, blonde hair and blue eyes!

My dad had DNA test done on my brother and sister because they dont look like my mother or father! It all came out that they were his but it is absolutely amazing. There is little to no resemblence.

My family is Irish on dad's side, and he has reddish blonde hair and blue eyes. My mother's family is German and Polish. She has medium brown hair and hazel eyes. While mom is allergic to penicillin, dad isn't allergic to nearly anything.

Their three offspring were completely different from one another.

I was born with bright, bright orange hair and green eyes. At two, my hair turned espresso brown. By middle school, I was dirty blonde, and my eyes are still a greyish green. I am pale, but tan quickly, and without sensitivity to burning. I have almost zero allergies, besides a sensitivity to nickel against my skin.

My brother is platinum blonde with bright blue eyes. His features never changed. He burns to a crisp in sunlight, and is very pale. He also has very strong allergies.

My little sister is a redhead with dark brown eyes. Her hair has become more strawberry blonde in the last few years, and her eyes have lightened to an amber color. She is freckled and light skinned, but doesn't tan or burn easily. She is allergic to adhesives and particular medicines.

I love genetics. It's just amazing what can happen.

There weren't many surprises in the family I was born into... both my folks had blonde hair that turned brown in their early teens, and each of my siblings and I were born with bright blonde hair that has only just started turning brown in our mid-twenties. I think that's the only thing that is very noteworthy.

Both my (white) parents have black hair, hazel eyes. I got their hair, but everything else is from older generations apparently. Like my blue eyes, freckles, and inability to tan, only burn

Uh.... if it matters, I'm French, German, a bit of Irish, bit of NA, and.... Canadian >.>
