For those of you with birthdays on 9/11

Contributor: Peggi Peggi
I've seen a couple of posts, and actually was talking to a friend who has a birthday on September 11th. The friend of mine said it is difficult to explain her emotions about her birthday now, because of what happened in 2001. She is excited that it is her birthday but depressed because of the memory of those lives that were lost.

So I just wondered how anyone else with a birthday on that date felt, if you care to share.

Both my mother-in-law and sister-in-law's birthday falls on 9/11, they don't make a big deal out of their b-days, and just let the day pass quietly by.

Contributor Darling Jen's birthday is that day, too.

It's my birthday as well.
I don't really feel depressed about what happen... it's a sad tragic event but I hate for people to re-open wounds.

I haven't really enjoyed my birthday since 14. All through school was hell getting balloons or flowers, one year I got a black eye for being cheerful.

The friend I'd spoken to says she celebrates her birthday before her actual birthday and doesn't bring it up on the actual day, because she feels bad celebrating on a day that hurts her and so many other people.

Sorry to hear that it was so hard on you, I think that having a birthday on a remembrance for a tragic event would be difficult, for that very reason.

I don't have a birthday on 9/11, but it is my parents' anniversary. They still celebrate it, but they don't make a big deal about of it publicly. My father still sends her flowers at work because it is something he has done every year, but other than that they don't really do anything.

I think that's sweet that he still sends her the flowers I don't think that anyone with a birthday (or anniversary!) should give up celebrating, but because of the date and all, I think that keeping it private is good

Aww well, happy anniversary to them
