Fixed for idiocy: How do you feel about google plus?

Contributor: carenautilus carenautilus
Sorry about the false start! Here we go again:

My father recently sent me an invitation to Google plus. I'd never heard of it before. Apparently it's just been launched, so that may explain it. It's a social networking site a little like facebook, but with different ways of managing friends and status updates. At least, as far as I can tell.

Honestly it is like Facebook in most ways, and it has too many kinks to work out. I was one of the first 50 to get the "beta" version before it was released and before they allowed people to forward the link to sign up, and back then it SUCKED but it has improved and hopefully it will continue to do so.

I wonder if it'll be a success. I mean, if it isn't really all that better from facebook, why join? Especially since, for most people, fb has all their friends on it. A social networking site isn't much good if there isn't much social.

I prefer to stick with facebook. Most of my friends are onb there and don't plan on changing.

Until they do something really impressive with it, I'm not going to be on it that much.

Ditto. I merged initially from MySpace to Facebook, but I'm not looking to jump again.

I never, ever plan on using it for the simple fact that it checks on your legal identity. It's just controlling, in my opinion. link

Facebook does this too, though. I had a friend who had his middle name as Awesome, his nickname in our fraternity, and he got an email from Facebook saying they wanted to see legal documentation of his name, like a drivers license, or change his name, or they were going to delete his account. Well, of course he told them to fuck off, and moved to G+ where he hasn't gotten any harassment about his name. It seems weird that they singled him out because there are TONS of people I'm friends with who have fake names on FB. So FB does it too, it's just not universally enforced.

I'm rarely on Facebook, so I doubt that I'll ever switch.

That's incredibly weird... Especially considering I have an Eden facebook account where I go by my user name (and I use it way more than my "real identity" one). I've never had an issue with it.

Wow, that was kind of a jerky thing of FB to do to your friend! I agree, most of my friends have fake (often "game" profiles), so I wonder how they choose to enforce that?

I'm on Google+ and trying to use it like Facebook because I'm tired of Facebook making major changes without announcing anything beforehand. I don't care how many obscure blogs or well hidden help pages they mention it on, unless they point it out before the fact like they do after the fact, they're only informing a very small market. I look forward to seeing how Google+ progresses since it seems a whole lot like Facebook did when it first came out, only Facebook didn't have Facebook to compete with.

Yeah, I do wonder how sites like these get started.

I'm not wild for it, but the older generation hasn't moved over yet, which is a plus for me. Also, Google+ allows me to set my gender as 'other'. It's imperfect, but for me a step in the right direction.

Google Plus seems like it could be good, but there's too many obscure rules in place right now that could land me without access to my gmail account. Not really my thing. I think I'll stick to facebook.

Heard of it, but never really bothered with it. There are enough social networking sites out there, I don't need another. Besides I don't even like social networking sites that much.

That is [itaclic|exactly] why I made a Google+! I am trying to avoid someone, and I found out that they are going to make stalking extremely easy. So, I chose to try out Google+ and Myspace again. But, nobody is on Google+, I don't get any updates on my friends. Myspace is also extremely boring, and just as lame as I remember. I don't like the changes Facebook has started making, and I feel like they should make it an option if anybody wants to switch to the new, "improved" Facebook. I'm beginning to become indifferent to all social sites though.

I think if you block that person on Facebook none of your stuff will show up in their timeline if anybody who's a mutual friend comments or likes or whatever. At least I think so. And if not then I hope the people who I blocked see how awesome I am
