So far we have gone fishing ONCE... What do you do when you live 45miles away from any type of civilization, and in the desert?
Favorite summer activity?

Well, I don't live 45 miles away from civilization and I don't live in the desert, but we love going to the ocean! Summertime is really when we get out and 'do' more as a family. Parks, trails, etc.

We like swimming and have done it a few times so far this summer. Not really sure what the rest of the summer is going to bring

There's usually cool rock formations in deserts, you can go rock climbing or camping in real wilderness, that is always cool. You can raise, keep and ride horses, that's a full time job. Oh wait there's really sweet desert off road vehicles that you can ride. I am completely spacing on the names but I've gone dune buggying a few times and it's super fun.
But it can be hard. I have a video game buddy that lives in the middle of nowhere in AZ. Nothing to do at all he says.

Fishing just hasn't been something I can get into, but we've done other things so far. We had this huge event near my area -- Riverbend, which happens every year & although it's miserably hot & so many people that you're rubbing up against each other (talk about some real odor!) it's a blast and we end up going every year. It happens every night for a whole week & there's all sorts of different bands playing and other things you can do while there. They close down several streets just for it to happen.

We didn't make it every night this time, which isn't bad. I couldn't handle it every single night. I have awful blisters on my feet from just the first night. But we did go & see Dierks Bentley & he did pretty great. Ci-Lo Green (I think that's how his name's spelled) was there one night. Got kicked out for saying the F word. LOL. The last night was saturday & they always do a big firework show the last night, so we made sure to go. The fireworks were pretty great.
Other than Riverbend, we've not yet done any other big activities. I've been in the pool a couple times when I didn't have work to do, I got to spend a few hours both days out there. It was amazing, even though one of the days I spent my time mostly cleaning it.
We too live in the boonies. We're on a mountain in a tiny town, so there isn't even a Wal-Mart in our area! LOL. The nearest one is 45 minute drive. So it's not always filled with big activity here, but we find lots of fun still. Family cookouts, parties, swimming, crawl-dad hunting in our creek with the kids, etc. It's usually interesting. As for the moment, though, I will be recovering from Riverbend for the rest of the week. Then, I'll think about more activity. Lol.

OMG---I would be out on the dirt bike!!!! Or 4-wheeler if I was hurt (like I am now, lol!) My dream is to go riding in the desert one of these days--see the rock formations, zoom through the dunes....oh, yeah!!!!
