Fairs

Do you go to street fairs? Around here, we have fairs in August and September. They are lots of fun but super expensive! $3 for a small soda, $5 for a funnel cake and $6 for a cheeseburger. Not to mention the price of games! Do you think fairs are good fun and worthwhile or just a huge waste of money?

I used to! I lived in the DFW, TX area and my parents and I used to go to Mayfest and the Main Street Arts Festival and the Texas State Fair all the time! I loved it. I like to go to as many that interest me as possible. Especially craft fairs, but sometimes I just don't have the time or the energy.

I'm going to the Folsom Street Fair. What's not fun about BDSM demonstrations on public streets? Of course, I'm not going for overpriced food. Street fairs around here tend to serve alcohol and ethnic and gourmet food. Burritos and falafels are more common than cheeseburgers. Funnel cakes aren't common at all; I had never seen one here until Denny's started serving them.

I'm more into carnivals, although I think the pricing on the street fair games is about the same. Carnival games are just more fun overall, lol. I think it can be fun with a group of friends.

Have you been to a movie theature recently? Soda, movie ticket and popcorn is $22.00.

Fairs are great for getting out of the house, but like most entertainment it costs big $$$$$$$$

I go to plenty of events that are completely free and I'm not silly enough to buy overpriced soda when I can find a Walgreens or 7-11 within walking distance.

Wow, that's a cheap movie ticket and concessions.

However, movie theaters make NO MONEY from the ticket sales themselves. Not typically, or they don't make enough to even keep their place running, that's why concession prices are usually so high; that's what keeps the place going.

I've gone to my city's Fourth of July festival. There's a Hispanic Culture festival that runs at the same time in the same park. I usually go for the flea market that sets up shop there every year, the free concerts, and the fireworks display. We have a barbecue at my parent's house before we go, so we don't need to eat the overpriced junk food.
