Facebook users: Do you check facts before posting?

Contributor: SneakersAndPearls SneakersAndPearls
Lately, my Facebook front page has been packed with very intelligent people posting things that are less than intelligent. The two that have been on constantly are the one about Facebook copyrighting and "free" gift cards to popular stores. I never repost without checking, which means I rarely repost at all since most of the "information" is a hoax.

What about you? Do you fact check before you repost? If you notice it is false information, do you say anything to the poster?

I fact check most of what I repost, unless it is something that I really know will get to my conservative friends.

Today the wall is full of people recommending sending Christmas cards for wounded soldiers to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Only, Walter Reed didn't accept cards like that, and that Walter Reed closed a year ago. Does nobody check anything before spreading it? *face palm*

Fact-check facebook and tumblr usually, I only share stuff from friends/artists (on facebook) and artists/sources (tumblr,) and sometimes I correct them if I'm not second-guessing everything.

I don't post a lot on Facebook. But when I do, it is usually about things I've done that day or something like that.

I ALWAYS check facts. I hate it when people don't. It drives me nuts! I don't understand why people are willing to believe anything they hear or read on the internet. Ever been to school? Ever written a paper? Ever just had the common sense to say, "hey! Anybody can say whatever they want. Why should I believe them?" I think it's a combination of laziness and self righteousness--people need to be outraged about something, need to be for a "cause," need to show off to everyone how informed they are, and how concerned they are with the world. It makes me CRAZY.

Anyone can make up a statistic or percentage, and photoshopping happens. I check facts.

I don't use facebook for that. I only have one group that I'm actually active with and then ignore everything else pretty much.

I do, which is why I tend not to post political stuff on Facebook. Besides, I have too many friends with differing view points

You can't argue with stupid people. They just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Just kidding. Actually I just don't really use facebook much. I check out what friends and family are doing and ignore most everything else. I don't use it to interact with people much.

I always fact check before I repost. And on that note, I rarely repost because most information like that on Facebook is false.
