For those of you who might not be as computer savvy, HTTPS is a more secure connection, encrypting your data the whole trip end to end, so that it can't be captured anywhere near as easily.
I saw this article go up on Facebook actually, posted up by a friend of mine. I find it interesting that after the founder, Mark Zuckerberg's profile gets hacked, now Facebook is in the process of releasing a new security feature that users can opt in to that makes sure that all their activity is conducted on a secure connection. They claim that the announcement isn't as a result of the hacking, but I'm not so sure...
