Ever have any misunderstandings over words/phrases that have double meanings?

Contributor: spiced spiced
I just saw this article by porn star Aurora Snow, in which she talks about a few words that have very different meanings in the porn world than in the "regular" world...which reminded me of a couple of amusing word-related mix-ups...

A couple of days ago, I was watching TV with my wife, a show about unusual bathrooms. A guy had created his bathroom entirely out of gold (or at least the color gold). I burst out laughing when he said "I love to start every day with a nice golden shower!" I had explain to my wife why I found that funny.

When I was in my early teens, one of my friends got the phrase "snow job" (meaning a cover-up) mixed up with the word "blowjob"! One of our other friends was trying to gloss over the fact that he'd messed up a bike he'd borrowed; my friend said "I think the whole thing is a complete blowjob!" Of course, everyone exploded with laughter, and the story was told over and over.

How about you? Have you, or someone you know, ever had a misunderstanding over something that didn't quite mean what you thought it meant?

LOL Those are funny!!

My mother has gotten into texting lately. Since she doesn't know any real text speak she makes up her own. I was meeting her somewhere once (can't remember where) but she texted me "when do u think u will cum?" I laughed so hard, and when I told my man later that day he laughed so hard too.

LOL That was funny. Yea, I know I've been prone to take words/phrases the wrong way. But it's hard. Whew. Talking and understanding are hard work! Lol. I just completed a course on communication, and I tell you, it was actually pretty eye opening! I have learned to say exactly what I mean & really, it has made a difference. Then you have my partner who just says. Lol. I sometimes can't tell what way he means something, so he has to clarify. And I over-analyze. So we get mixed up a lot.

Right after I was injured I could not come up with many words for things and made my own up that sounded right....not a good idea!! There were many times what was coming out of my mouth was a bit...off.

My mom is addicted to caramel frappuccinos from Starbucks with extra caramel sauce (which they call drizzle). She got into the habit of asking for "extra caramel jizz". After the cashier smiled and I started laughing, I had to explain why she had to stop saying jizz.

^That is so damn funny!

We had a dog that would graze on whatever berries he found growing in the backyard & he'd get sick sometimes, (of course we removed all we could find, but he still found some). Since they would dangle down to his level, my mother got it into her head that it was okay to loudly shout out the back door at the dog, "Sinbad, stop eating those dingleberries!" We didn't know this, but discovered it one day & fell over laughing! We had to explain.

I have an elderly lady friend who gets lots of words mixed up or she makes up her own & prides herself on her creativity. Imagine my surprise when she said to me, "I just love jigaboos on top"! She was talking about the dangling embellishments on a shirt & I believe the word she wanted was thingamabobs, but she kept saying jigaboos. I had to tell her that was already a word & had horrible connotations. She didn't believe me! When her boyfriend chimed in & told her the truth she was MAD someone had already taken HER word!

@ spiced, what a great discussion topic!

I've experienced this one. A co-worker who should know better always says she's going to go blow a client, when she really means she's going to use a blow dryer on them. ...and then there was a day when the shop was so insanely busy that she blurted to a customer that she got gang banged that afternoon. Fortunately she's so damn likeable that nobody has ever been offended.

Nice. I didn't know 'Girl' was an ageless reference. ATM is great, whenever I see or hear that, I always think of porn. (that is prob why you also see it as A2M a lot of times)

These are pretty hilarious, haha, I know I'm always the last to catch on when others see a double meaning in things.

The other night I was told that, in school, they were reading about a gangbang. What they meant: the story was about a young man who joined a gang, and how the mob mentality allowed the gang members to beat up a drunk or shoot a person, because they had each other to back them up, even though they wouldn't do it on their own - or "gangbanging". But I totally thought they were talking about something else until I got the explanation .

While I don't have much to add to the topic, I would like to say that my mum does the whole 'make up text speak while you go along' thing. Often I get messages that say:

"I m fkn wot k r u?!" And then she gets very upset when I have no idea what she means!

Oh god, this. I know people who constantly call gang members "gangbangers" not knowing it means... Something else.
That would be kind of awesome though if the gang members around here all actually just belonged to a secret club where they had happy fun group sex.

Sounds like you need a newer "Text Version" of the Saturday Night Live Celebrity Mom Translator! link Your mom reminded me of the skit with Mom's who can't get celebrity names right, & you enter what she said & out pops the actual name. They should do a follow up skit with this text speak idea, I bet it happens more than the celebrity ones, so maybe you should write in & mention the idea, You might win free tickets?

Too funny! I have to text my mother back "what?" sometimes too.

I just thought of another one - a guy that I work with sometimes will use the phrase "a reach around" or "reach around" fairly regularly. Clearly, having absolutely NO idea what it means, and I just laugh inside and try not to laugh on the outside.
