EF's mannequins... do they freak you out?

Contributor: aliceinthehole aliceinthehole
something about mannequins weirds me out. be they modeling strap-on harnesses or leather masks or styled with hair and makeup, i just don't get it! especially when they're showing off lingerie next to super hott real models with full color backgrounds... it creeps me out, and turns me off. reminds me of italian shopfronts with everything from busted up mannequin heads with super weird makeup and hair styles to actual baby dolls used as mannequins...

who else gets a weird feeling from this trip to the 80's? in florida?

LOL Too funny! I always think that when I see the mannequins. Very weird, and a little difficult to tell how it would actually fit. But I think store mannequins are freaky too. I like how some stores no longer put heads on them, but they're just like torsos. It's a little less weird.

Mannequins are pretty odd to begin with. It's hard to look at a human form and know that it isn't sentient.

i know, and why IS that? shouldnt it be MORE weird to see a human without a head? or legs or arms for that matter?

for some reason the anonymity is calming. esp. when they're in neutral colors like solid white, or clear.

Yes, I was thinking that as I typed. "Why should a headless mannequin be less freaky than a mannequin with a head?" lol Technically it should be MORE freaky. But, I agree, not seeing that fake face feels better for some reason. And I agree about the colors, it makes it seem less like a fake human and more like a clothing display. Much less weird.

Mannequins in general never freak me out, but I've noticed the freaky ones here! I am always freaked out by the way they look like something out of a horror movie with twisted limbs on the EF lingerie section. Thought I was the only one that noticed that.

I don't really pay too much attention to them. It's the actual item I'm interested in buying after all.

Some of the mannequins freak me out, or at least they used to when I first got here. Now they don't bother me too much, but they're still a little freaky looking.

I am reminded of that weird comedy movie a few years ago where the mannequin came to life and the guy was in love with her. Very strange. I understand the need for them in brick and mortar stores, but I wish all photos had real people wearing the items to be modeled.

In light of this comment, you have to check out The Bloggess's most recent blog in Sexis Magazine, and view the image she has posted. Warning, it is a very graphic photo, be prepared to be shocked, don't say I didn't warn you: link

As the Bloggess said, I just do not have words, other than perhaps WHY?

The mannequins are gross - either use real models or don't sell them. I never buy lingerie from EF because of the awful mannequins.

The only thing about them that is troublesome is that I am TINY and I can't fit into the sizes the models are shown wearing! Eeeep. Next time EF goes mannequin shopping they should get a slightly more robust figure, methinks!

They don't bother me. The photos with the models are the ones from the manufacturers websites. The mannequins are the ones EdenFantasys has taken of the product so I tend to prefer them over the models.

Mannequins are everywhere. Malls, clothing stores, etc. Seems pretty normal to me and much better than taking a photo of the piece hanging on a hanger IMO.

I collect dolls so... maybe my opinion on the doll like mannequins doesn't count

I prefer to see clothing on the mannequins, despite their odd expressions. I'm built more like the mannequins, not like the real life models. The mannequins give me a better idea of how an item will fit.

It's the 'uncanny valley' effect. Japan already has life-like robotic receptionists in some businesses in Tokyo. A lot of people think a human-looking android would be neat, but it'll unsettle people too much.

After working in retail, I simply don't notice the mannequins being used, just the clothes. Although we've jokingly given them names ... we had a male torso mannequin at a thrift store I worked at that we frequently dressed in women's clothing (he was a size 10 in misses dresses). We named him "George the Drag Queen".

I've named all of the EF models 'Bambi'.

Sometimes they catch me by surprise, like when I see them and think the model has really dead-looking creepy eyes... and then I realize it's a mannequin, not a model.
